Equivalent of shift tab on macOS Posted: 14 May 2022 10:23 AM PDT How do I achieve this, to, that is I want to reverse tab. |
I can't boot up disk options when I startup my Mac Posted: 14 May 2022 10:02 AM PDT I recently installed Asahi Linux, and for a few months now I've had no issue with it. Now, however, my computer decided to boot me up into Asahi linux when I started charging it after it died. Usually when this happens and I want to go back to MacOS, I just hold option and I can get back to my MacOS partition, but this time it won't work. I've tried booting into safe-mode (Shift), Recovery Mode (Cmd-R), resetting SMC (Shift-Option-Control + Power btn), and resetting NVRAM (Cmd-Option-P-R), all to no avail. It seems like possibly my keyboard is just not picking up commands until afterward, since when Asahi linux's terminal boots up, I'm not able to type commands at all for a few seconds, or I'll be stuck on caps-lock or something fishy like that. No water damage or physical damage happened in between uses, so the problem is likely software related. This is on a M1 Pro Macbook pro 16 inch 2021 edition. Any thoughts? I know this is quite a weird issue, I'm hoping I just missed something simple but I can't figure out what that might be. |
Automatic log each session from Terminal Posted: 14 May 2022 06:56 AM PDT Just moved off from windows into a Mac. I used to use Putty and it has a feature of logging sessions into a folder so everything that happens (stdin/out) goes also to a folder for historic record. I would like to have the same thing with Mac Terminal app. |
Mark unsorted recents photos in iPhone Posted: 14 May 2022 04:17 AM PDT I've a habit of sorting all my 'recent' photos into different local albums on my iPhone. I've 30,000+ photos in 'recent' album and NOT all are sorted in various local albums. How can I mark the photos in 'recent' albums, all the photos which are NOT sorted/present in any other existing local album? After marking those unsorted photos from 'recent' album, I will easily sort it out to various local albums and stay organised. |
How to change the default event time to all-day? Posted: 14 May 2022 02:11 AM PDT
I tried this but this just creates a 24hr event that starts at 9am Alternatively, is there a way to change the background color of the events on monthly view? I want the bg color to be determined by the calendar category. This would be a work around to fix my problem |
Combining lots of photo folders Posted: 14 May 2022 12:32 AM PDT I have lots of photo folders, including some with duplicates. I want to end up with a master set which contains everything, with no duplicates. I was wondering what would be the best way to do this? I don't mind paying for software to do it. Current thinking is I could make a new Apple Photos library, import everything, and then export it. I'm hoping that will help combine and remove duplicates but I imagine there would be a better way. |
Why Might an iPhone Crash and Reboot in Safari? Posted: 14 May 2022 12:41 AM PDT A few days ago I accidentally clicked an ad in Safari on my iPhone (iOS 15.4.1) which sent the browser through a long chain of redirects, and then the device rebooted. I've heard in the past about malicious webpages that could cause a device to do this, but this problem was apparently patched. My Battery Health still lists "Peak Performance Capability", and so it doesn't appear to be a result of performance degradation. I'm wondering what other reasons may have caused this to happen, and if I should have any security concerns? Unfortunately I'm unable to remember which site/ad caused this to happen. Any help would be much appreciated. |
How can I directly download a PDF without previewing it first on a web browser on iPad? Posted: 13 May 2022 11:49 PM PDT I had the URL of a large PDF (e.g., https://aclanthology.org/2021.acl-long.pdf). why does the legend or code or elements computer stuff pop up when I press increase volume? Posted: 13 May 2022 11:26 PM PDT So, I don't know what exactly I did but all of a sudden I couldn't hear sound through my headphones. I had checked if the volume still works and it does. It turns out the volume on my headphones was mute but that didn't fix my problem as when i pushed the increase volume button on the keyboard a side popped up that looks like legend or code or something. None of the top row buttons work properly. Brightness doesn't do anything. I mean when i press it the brightness doesn't go up or down. When I press decrease volume the screen is goes to like that area where it shows you your desktops and open windows. I need help please. |
Posted: 14 May 2022 07:16 AM PDT I would like to connect my Macbook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017) to 2 screens simultaneously. I've seen people using two Multi-Ports/Adapters/Hubs connecting them to 2 different USB-C inputs, but I only have a single USB-C type input. I was wondering if it is possible for me to use an HDMI splitter (1 HMDI to 2 HDMI) connected to my Multi-Port plugged into my single USB-C input and stream to the 2 screens. Thanks |
Posted: 14 May 2022 07:18 AM PDT I have a user who cannot drag and drop files from her local Mac (High Sierra) to her remote Mac (Mojave). She can copy and paste text but not transfer files. It comes up with a small grey forbidden icon but no error message. She says that she used to be able to do this but has at some point lost functionality. If I log into a screen share session with my user it's no problem to drag and drop files. Do you know where to start looking for clues on how to fix this issue? Is there a setting on her local machine preventing this, is it a permissions issue or is there somewhere else I can look? |
Spyware in MacOS: Spotlight Search Privacy Posted: 14 May 2022 05:59 AM PDT I have Macbook Pro 14.2 from 2017. I don't have Apple ID and I don't own Iphone or any other apple products. I wanted to know are Spotlight search private? Or, in my case is it possible to mask my identity? If Apple still transmits data, and identifies me through the serial number, is it possible to prevent this? |
Limit number for "Hide my Email"? Posted: 14 May 2022 12:24 AM PDT I am in the process of modifying all my accounts to assign a unique email address to each one via the "Hide my Email" function. I am currently at 273 addresses created for the occasion but I wonder if there is a limit for the number of this addresses. I can't find the information anywhere on the Apple support pages. Thanks in advance for your help! Julien |
How to remotely & automatically switch a Mac's audio output device Posted: 14 May 2022 08:03 AM PDT I have a Mac (running Catalina) dedicated as a media server, running Plex and Spotify. I'd like to be able, from my Mac laptop, to simply click something and switch the remote Mac's audio output setting from its internal speakers to 'Bat Cave', my gen 4 Apple TV. Any thoughts about how to accomplish this? I'm more at home with Unix shell scripting than with AppleScript or Automator, but any solution, including hybrid, would be great. |

How to make links open in a virtual desktop browser instead of the second screen? Posted: 14 May 2022 05:02 AM PDT When I use a monitor with my Mac, it's to watch videos and multitask. I'd have a Chrome window open on my main screen in a virtual desktop and another Chrome window open on the monitor. When I switch to another virtual desktop on my main screen, then open a web link, OSX always opens it in the monitor instead of the other virtual desktop. I interacted with the virtual desktop Chrome window last. How can I choose to open links in the virtual desktop? |
Safari keeps reloading and moves back to previous pages Posted: 14 May 2022 10:00 AM PDT On Safari MacBook Pro 2021 (macOS version 12.3), when I open a new tab and I start typing something in the address bar and then I press return, Google appears and then disappears automatically; bringing me back to the new empty tab. This sometimes happens a lot, sometimes happens occasionally, it is like random. It is annoying. Even if it does not happen, and I am in Google page, when I click on any link on Google, Safari brings me back to the initial Google page and not to the website that I am supposed to go to after my click. I do not know what is the problem here and how to fix it. I cleared the history but the same issue is still present. |
Where are the new passkeys in the keychain? Posted: 14 May 2022 06:03 AM PDT I have been playing around with the passkeys and I was expecting to see them in my keychain but no luck? Are they not visible to the user or are they in some menu that I cannot spot. |
Posted: 14 May 2022 08:09 AM PDT I'm trying to reinstall macOS Monterey. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, they have decided that the mouse won't work during the reinstall process. The pointer appears on screen but the mouse doesn't move it. The mouse has been charged so I'm assuming that this is just a thing. So anyway, a couple of screens into the install, the software licence agreement dialog has come up. Question: How do I press Agree on this dialog? I can scroll the text with the arrow keys, but neither Tab nor Shift-Tab move to the button panel below. I can get to the main menu with fn-Ctrl-F2 but there is barely anything in it. I can also get to the keyboard input selector in the top right with fn-Ctrl-F8. (I was looking for some way to turn on more accessibility options.) I am assuming there is some way for me to press this button, if Monterey really is the big improvement in accessibility that it was marketed as. In my case the mouse may not be getting paired as expected but in someone else's case they may be unable to use a mouse at all. |
Open external links in existing Safari window with tab groups Posted: 14 May 2022 06:26 AM PDT I started using tab groups in Safari on Mac but now every time I click a link in another app it opens a completely new Safari window. Is it possible to get it to use the same window? Edit: Just to clarify, if I click a link in some app it opens a new window with a single tab in it. If I click a new link it will open a tab in that window. What I want is the first link to open in any already open Safari windows. |
How to avoid audio clipping when using SAY command in AppleScript? Posted: 14 May 2022 04:06 AM PDT When "say" command is used in AppleScript it seems the audio channel is asleep because the beginning of the word always gets clipped. Subsequent words are find but after a few minutes the audio channel goes into some hibernation mode and the problem happens again. I've tried various things with various success such as: But still the result is not good. Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? |

How to turn off new popup for spell checking in Word for Mac on macOS 11.3 Posted: 14 May 2022 10:07 AM PDT After the last macOS update, a popup started appearing when you click on a misspelled word in Word for Mac. This is a very frustrating function when you work in several different languages not always wanting to spell-check even though the red underscoring is good as a reminder. Hence, I want to keep the previous functionality to get suggestions when right-clicking on an underscored word but would really want to turn this popup function off. Does anyone know how this could be done? The only option I've found is to turn spell-checking as you write off completely, which also removes the red underscoring that I'd like to keep. |
iPhone not working but iPad is working with chromecast Posted: 14 May 2022 12:00 AM PDT I have been using my phone to cast to my chromecast for almost a year with no problems but about a month ago my phone stopped seeing that my chromecast was available. Fortunately I have an older iPad, so in the case where my phone does not work I use my iPad to cast which still works as it always has. My iPhone and iPad are both on the same WiFi network so if one sees the chromecast, so should the other. Why does my phone not see my chromecast on the same WiFi network but my iPad does? What I have tried:
My conclusion: I may be wrong, but the last thing I can think of is that the phone is broken. Does anyone have any ideas before I conclude that the phone is just broken? |

WD Blue SSD stuck in a boot loop Posted: 14 May 2022 09:00 AM PDT Stuck in a bootloop with ssd So I recently pruchased a WD Blue 500GB SSD to replace my HDD in my 13" MBP mid-2012. At first I wanted to clone my HDD to the SSD, looked up a tutorial on ifixit and then followed the procedure. I used superduper to clone it, but whenever I began cloning it kept asking me to convert the deive to APFS, and superduper failed to do so by itself. My SSD was in an Orico disk drive enclosure. I formatted the drive manually through disk utility to APFS. Started the cloning process took approx 16 hours. Then I tried to boot through the ssd while it was in the enclosure however it kept bootlooping, so I figured I should try installing it first, did so and the same thing kept happening. Finally I reinstalled the OS(catalina) through recovery and, the bootloop is still persisting. Right now I am just back to using my HDD, and it has begun to exhibit the same problem. It goes to the progress bar on startup and abruptly reboots. Things I have tried,

sync iBooks page currently reading between iPhone and MacBook Posted: 14 May 2022 08:02 AM PDT I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) (macOS Mojave 10.14.6) and an iPhone 7 (iOS 12.4.1). I downloaded an ebook from the internet, and started reading it on my MacBook. A few days later I copied it onto my iPhone (using iTunes on my MacBook when my iPhone was connected). I thought bookmarks would sync between the two devices, so I could continue reading on one device from where I left off on the other. Unfortunately that isn't happening. How can I keep my two books in-sync? |
