| Odd connection on fresh install of macOS Monterey Posted: 20 Jan 2022 11:12 AM PST So, I hade used the erase all content and settings feature in macOS Monterey since I wanted to have a fresh install of my computer. However, as soon as my computer connected to the internet (right after the install itself), it seemed to make a strange established connection to some AWS link. This is the output from I tried looking up this link and my browser said it may be a malicious site. Should I be worried about this? I don't really understand what the parsecd process is and why it is pointing to this link. When I got this output I didn't have anything else open, it was just after doing an offline fresh install of Monterey and connecting to a network. If anyone could help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advanced. |
| Why does my M1 Mac not see my Network Printer/Scanner? Posted: 20 Jan 2022 10:59 AM PST I have a Samsung SCX-4828FN network printer which on my older Intel Mac's are able to detect both as Printer and Scanner. When I open Image Capture, the scanner is dispalyed. On my new M1 MBP however, while the printer is found on the network (and I'm able to print); I cannot see the device as a scanner in the Image Capture app. Does anyone know why this is and how I could resolve? |
| "cpan install" trying to use /sw/bin/tar (instead of /usr/bin/tar) Posted: 20 Jan 2022 11:02 AM PST I'm having no luck getting CPAN modules to install on my M1 Mac running Big Sur. They all seem to be trying to use /sw/bin/tar to untar the archives, but there is nothing there; tar is in /usr/bin/tar. Mac OS does not want me to create anything like /sw, so I can't create a link to it there or anything. The two modules I'm trying right now are GD and Imager, no luck on either. Who knows what additional problems I'll run into after this is solved, but right now I can't get past this point. |

Google Apps free tier is closing and I am not interested in buying Google's full package - I only use Gmail and YouTube. Let's call it Lang1 and Lang2 (ex: English and Russian). Sometimes I'm starting writing in Lang1 but I'm still on Lang2 keyboard configuration and my words look like gibberish (and the opposite). Is there a shortcut or an app that can change my input to the other language with a click? For example, if I'm writing in a text box on some website and I want to change language because I was on the wrong keyboard input, it will automatically change the letters from Lang1 to Lang2 in the text box?

| Wi-fi not showing up on Network options with High Sierra - MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) Posted: 20 Jan 2022 07:26 AM PST I just updated my macbook-pro mid 2010 to High Sierra and the Wi-fi disappeared completely. I've tried to run apple hardware test and got and error -3403D. Then I booted into safe mode and nothing happened. Then I Ran the terminal with commands and wi-fi didn't show up in the list, only Ethernet and FireWire. It said "Wi-fi is not a recognised network service ** Error: The parameters were not valid" And then "You cannot set Wi-fi power because all AirPort network services are disabled" I don't know what to do next!!! Please help!!!!! I hope somebody here has a solution. |

All other keys are working normally and everything else works normally except these 2 keys. I have tried Razor BlackWidow v3 and Magic Keyboard (that came with my iMac M1). | Monterey Macbook Pro 2021: Keyboard backlight stuck on off Posted: 20 Jan 2022 05:22 AM PST I've had this issue for a while. Keyboard backlight unresponsive to pressing the touchbar. The menu in the screenshot shows it stuck on low. I try pulling it up higher, but it doesn't budge. I haven't tried the restarting the SMC yet.

| App alerts on the iPhone don't alert in headphones Posted: 20 Jan 2022 04:56 AM PST SummaryI'm using an iPhone 12 mini, iOS 15.2.1. When wearing (cable based) headphones, alerts from (at least) one specific app don't make it into the headphones - but running music stops. The alert then only rings using the iPhone's loudspeaker. Things I also checkedI've contacted their (on-call alerting app) support, they confirm functionality being able to ring on headphones. Is there any setting in iOS I might have missed to give the app the chance to use the headphones for alerting? |

Purpose
After the first boot with Monterey, the VM suddenly HANGS AND REBOOTED BY ITSELF, reporting "This system was automatically rebooted after panic". It seems it enters in a "reboot loop" because after some time, even doing nothing, a reboot still happen again and again, like in an infinite loop. How to reproduce
2a. Start a VM upgraded to Monterey
==> You'll see in 0-15 min Guest OS HANGS AND SUDDENLY REBOOTS by itself. Logs and infoI unfortunately continue to note the instability of Monterey as Guest with VB 6.1.32, even on Apple Hardware! All config data, and a video are at disposal to have an idea, as well as VB Logs (see attachments).
QuestionsI asked to VirtualBox forum here topic 104998 with hope of receiving helpful feedback, which has not been the case as yet. I'm primarily interested in sharing to the community and finding other user experinces. Does the same or similar behaviour happens to someone else? Many thx! |

Let's say, for example, that I want stackexchange cookies to be deleted at the end of the session. Is there any script that allows us to do so? I do know that the extension 'Cookie' allows one to do so, but I find it an overkill to spend 25$ bucks for what I need. I was looking for something similar to Edge's Thanks |
| Bigsur mouse cursor freezing and jumping Posted: 20 Jan 2022 04:40 AM PST I have Macbook Pro latest 2020 (i9 processor, 16gb ram, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB). Magic mouse has very low polling rate (90hz) and I don't like it. I'm old FPS player and for this I can see the lag between mouse and cursor and I really hate this. For this I'm using Bloody RT5A mouse and this has 500hz polling rate. This is wireless gaming mouse and it has a usb dongle. I'm connecting this to my mac with a cable.
Generaly this is working very good, I can use this mouse smoothly. But sometimes cursor is freezing and jumping. I don't know the real problem. I'm looking to Activity Manager and Google Chrome Renderer is eating my cpu. Probably this is affecting smooth of cursor. But we're living in 2022, and this kind of problems must be live between 1999-2005. I'm using latest version of Macos, latest version of hardware. If a process eats my cpu it MUST NOT affect my mouse. I can't move my mouse to correct point. This is making me really angry. Do you have any advice for handle this annoying thing? I want to use my mouse smoothly everytime. Please don't suggest me "reset smc or pram" because I tried them and they don't work. There must be a real solution. And at last I have some words to apple: Hey apple, you're creating very good products but still you have some annoying problems. Of course you can make mouse cursors smoothly everytime but you don't make it. You can improve IRQ priorities for mouse, or automatically limit processes which eating cpu or something like that but you must immediately handle this issue. i9 processor is latest and very powerfull cpu but your operating system can't handle moving the cursor smoothly. This must be a joke. |
| Is there a way to inspect or change the resolution negotiated between MacOS and a USB webcam? Posted: 20 Jan 2022 06:38 AM PST I use a Dell Ultrasharp webcam, which supports up to 4k resolution. On a Windows device, I am getting that full resolution and a pretty good overall image, provided my lightning is good. Connecting this webcam to my 2019 MBP running Monterey 12.1, it does work, it does give me a video, and can be used in applications like Photo Booth or MS Teams. Since Dell provides no application for the webcam for MacOS, I use the Webcam Settings app to optimize some aspects like Zoom level, Focus and so on. My problem is that the video stream obviously does not make use of the full capability of the webcam. I can't say for certain what resolution it emits, but when checking the video in Photo Booth as a no-frills least common denominator, it looks more like 720p. The video metrics in MS Teams show a relatively small resolution as well (though I do not know if that is because of the webcam or server-side settings restricting the resolution or bandwidth). The issue is clearly pixelation, not just a blurred image which could stem from wrong focus or a dirty lens. So far, I found no way to get any insight into the internal processing between the webcam and MacOS (while the 3rd party Webcam Settings app does give me pretty sufficient control over all the features, it does not seem to show any debug info of any kind). Is there a way to find out, for example, whether the Mac "thinks" that the webcam only supports 720p? Or an option telling the Mac to go to the full resolution? If it matters, I made sure to connect it with a direct and original Apple USB-C <-> USB-C cable (normally I'm going through a USB hub), but that makes no difference. |

I have an internal SSD on my Mac and I have allocated 20GB of it for my Linux. I erased the 20GB Linux on disk utility and wished to free that volume for Mac main volume but the minus sign grayed out after erasing (formatting) the Linux volume. When I restart the computer, it boots into GNU GRUB version 2.02 and gets stuck into a loop even with exit command. I try booting with option but there's only one available disk to choose from, which is EFI volume and it leads mot the GNU terminal. I then boot into recovery mode and noticed the main partition is showing the FFFF… as contents and partition type. Please see the photos for reference. I didn't backup (yes I'm dumb…) my drive before erasing Linux and really hope I can recovery the lost data on Mac. I don't care the Linux data at all. I noticed there are some old questions similar to my problem but I'm unsure if the code/numbers are the same as most of them are few years old. | Disable all system fn+letter keyboard shortcuts Posted: 20 Jan 2022 09:19 AM PST I have the fn key set up as the Meta key for Emacs. But recently Mac OS (both 12.0.1 and 12.1) has started gobbling one or two combinations of fn plus a letter key: most notably, fn+N opens Notification Centre, even though I have no shortcut set up for 'Show Notification Centre' in System Preferences → Keyboard → Shortcuts → Mission Control. Since a lot of Emacs modes use I never use the systemwide fn-shortcuts. How do I defang them completely? |
| IKEv2 VPN disconnects after 8 minutes on the Monterey macOS Posted: 20 Jan 2022 05:21 AM PST We recently updated our Microsoft RRAS server security to meet the latest Apple AES 256 VPN standards in order to connect however we have a problem where an IKEv2 VPN disconnects after exactly 8 minutes on the Monterey macOS. During the eight minute period everything works great. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/devicemanagement/vpn/ikev2/ikesecurityassociationparameters We don't have any problems with an iPhone IKEv2 VPN on iOS 14.8 or a PC (after VPN policy update). On the Microsoft Server 2019 I used this powershell command to update the IKEv2 security: and of course restarted the RRAS server for the change to take affect, I also enabled IKEv2 fragmentation But still having the same disconnect issue even after rebooting the RRAS server. For reference, if you make this change you also have to update the Windows PCs to avoid a "policy match error" when connecting your VPN (change "IKEv2-VPN" to the name of the VPN you want to update): Side note: that this configuration change does not affect SSTP connections. Update: We also tried manually changing the MTU to 1400 and checked to make sure that iCloud Private Relay was off which it already was. |
