What are examples of games that were tech demos? [closed] Posted: 16 May 2022 03:32 AM PDT There are a bunch of games out there that brought with them a new engine or showcased new technology. Games like Quake 1-4, Quake II RTX, Doom I, II, and 2016, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, and Unreal 2 are examples. What are some more examples of such games? I would also like to allow answers that include game "fragments" like the Epic Citadel or Half Life 2: Lost Coast. I would not like to allow things that are strictly gaming benchmarks, like 3D Mark. I would not like to allow things like nVidia, ATI, and AMD tech demos, like the nVidia Creature demo or nVidia Human Head demo for example. This pretty much goes for anything on this page, this page, or this one. I would especially like to encourage people remember to post games that are older, even down to the DOS or 8-bit era. And it doesn't have to be just video - maybe there's some other jump in technology that's being showcased, like a new advancement in audio (what were the first Aureal 3D games? what were the first games with PCM? etc - Impossible Mission on C64 would be a good example here), or in control schemes (first game to use a racing wheel? analog joystick? keyboard and mouse? force feedback? Rez would be a good example here), or storage retrieval (first game installable on hard disk during its time? first game with save game files?), or a new technology (what was the first game programmed in C? the first game using OOP?). When posting a game, please mention what notable jump in tech it's showcasing, and the release date and platform. |
How can I spawn a falling block moving toward where I'm looking? Posted: 15 May 2022 07:32 PM PDT I mean if a falling block (the entity) can be spawned but with a motion assigned to the front of where I'm looking: Example: I'm looking to the direction 90 ( |
Why are my XBLA games not loading/freezing? Posted: 15 May 2022 06:03 PM PDT So I still have my Xbox 360 S, and I recently set it back up to play some of the old nostalgic games. Some of them are from the Arcade section, such as Raskulls. However, for some reason some of the games I have on there either won't load, or simply freeze when I attempt to load a level. For example, Raskulls loads, I can choose single or multiplayer, then when I attempt to load a level, it just freezes. Other games such as Portal 1 load and run without any issue. I am currently using the console offline, but I don't see how that would/should affect things, since I have been able to play these games off line in the past. |

Do I get MMR when the ranked game ended as a win while I'm disconnected? Posted: 16 May 2022 06:31 AM PDT I'm new to Dota 2, and my connection isn't stable. Do I get MMR when the ranked game ended as a win while I'm disconnected while the game was ending? For instance, the game ended 3 minutes after I get disconnected. That means, I missed the ending. But my team won. Do I get MMR from this situation? |

Config file not being loaded in game Posted: 16 May 2022 04:04 AM PDT I have edited my config.ini file in C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config to set my left click to attack move click, based on this reddit post. When I go into a game, none of my changes to the file work. When I look at the settings in game, it simply ignores the file completely. It is as if it doesn't look at the file unless it is edited in game. How can I force it to load the changes to the config file? I have tried changes settings in game and saving them, in the hope that it would load the rest of the saved settings in the file, but this does not work. |
Changing Minecraft entity rendering distance Posted: 16 May 2022 06:38 AM PDT I've noticed that, on some various servers I play on, entities are not rendered even if I am a short distance away, like ~40 blocks. Other servers I play on seem to be capable of rendering entities at enormous distances. I don't believe it's a server performance thing, as some of the more higher-performance networks I've been on, like Hypixel, have this short render distance as well. Is there a way to edit this distance? It'd improve various aspects of my gameplay. possibly related: yesterday, when setting up a small Spigot server on my computer, I noticed "view-distance" (or a similar name) in the server.properties file. Is this the entity render distance? It most likely isn't the regular render distance, because that's easily changeable on clientside from player to player. |
Where is the Fallout: New Vegas save game location? Posted: 16 May 2022 06:41 AM PDT I just reloaded Steam on a new computer and I can't find the folder to put my saved games into. Where is it? |
