How to keep a history/records of past calculations in the calculator app in the paper tape? Posted: 17 Jul 2022 08:23 PM PDT On macOS Monterey (12.4), after doing some calculations on the calculator app, quitting the calculator, and then opening the calculator app again. The paper tape feature is cleared and does not have a history of past calculations from the last time the app was opened. How do you keep a history/records of past calculations in the calculator app in the paper tape? |
Posted: 17 Jul 2022 06:46 PM PDT I have an Apple Mac that has Mac OS X 10.5.8. On this Mac, Xcode version 3.0 is installed. From what I can tell, there are also the DeRez and Rez command line tools. The Xcode software may have been installed from one or more DVDs that came with the Mac. In the Xcode documentation (which can be viewed by launching the Xcode application and then choosing Documentation from the Help menu), there is a page, "Command-Line Tools," which mentions the DeRez and Rez tools. The path to this page is ADC Home > Reference Library > Guides > Mac OS X > Mac OS X Technology Overview > Mac OS X Developer Tools >. It may be possible to find this page in the Xcode documentation by doing a full-text search over all documentation sets with the search term "DeRez" (without quotes) and the "Contains" option (as opposed to "Starts With" or "Exact") chosen. In the "Command-Line Tools" documentation page, there is a "Localization Tools" section. In this section, there is the statement "Table C-15 lists the applications and command-line tools for localizing your own applications." Afterwards, there is a statement about the directory locations of the tools and then there is a table with information about the DeRez, genstrings, and Rez tools. The description for the DeRez tool includes the statement "You can use this utility to find strings for localization purposes, for example." The description for the Rez tool includes the statement "You can use Rez to recompile the resource files you decompiled with DeRez after you have localized the strings." Given these statements about localizing and this categorization of the DeRez and Rez tools, the following question comes up: Is it permissible under the licensing for the Xcode software and the DeRez and Rez command-line tools to use the DeRez and Rez tools for purposes other than localization (or, put another way, for purposes that do not involve localization)? I have a software project and there is a resource file (with the .rsrc extension) in the project. For the purposes of this posting, I am using the name |
Shortcut to swap windows side by side for split view mode? Posted: 17 Jul 2022 06:18 PM PDT Suppose I have Chrome on the left and Firefox on the right for split view. How do I swap it so that its Firefox on the left and Chrome on the right I know you can do it manually by putting one window on a desktop then re positioning it but I was hoping for a shortcut |
"Private" data in ID3 tags created by Music Posted: 17 Jul 2022 04:10 PM PDT Music.app deleted 21 or more audio files in an unexpected way. Some of those files have "Private" ID3 data which exiftool says has an "Invalid ID3 frame size." Some of the files with the Private data were not undesirably deleted. So, I believe the presence of this data is unrelated to the other issue. But I wonder what the data is and why it was added to ten of 49 files which were all created the same way. eyeD3 says exiftool says Dumping this private data to one file and running Anyone able to tell me what these might be and why they are there? |
iOS and macOS synching messages, but old messages not restoring on Mac Posted: 17 Jul 2022 07:00 PM PDT I have been an iPhone user for a while, but just recently got back into the macOS game. I have configured Messages to synch with iCloud and messages are syncing. It was my intention, and half the reason I got this wee MacBook, to be able to view and search my old messages more nimbly. With syncing, am I not supposed to be getting my old messages too? Is this a known issue? Is there a manual way to transfer the history and then resume syncing the conventional way? |
Posted: 17 Jul 2022 05:01 PM PDT I would like to add up (and do other functions) to multiple numbers in a single cell separated by semicolons. The idea is that I have multiple values (e.g. „15; 20; 25; 25") logged in a cell and want to add them all up AND THEN divide them by the amount of numbers logged in said cell. The amount of numbers logged can varied from cell to cell. Basically, I just want to have the mean value of each cell. |
Posted: 17 Jul 2022 10:06 PM PDT My Macbook Pro 2017 (running Mojave) has no DVD drive, of course; but my Macbook early 2009 Superdrive (running El Capitan) can burn them, as well as my iMac 2011 (running High Sierra). Can I connect the Macbook Pro to one of these two computers, use the Roxio Titanium software on my Macbook Pro, but burn the DVD on one of the Superdrives? I'm looking at purchasing Roxio Toast Titanium 19, but open to suggestions for other software. I won't be doing a large amount of DVD authoring, just hobby stuff. Thanks! |
After connecting newer Mac Mini to monitor, the resolution is worse Posted: 17 Jul 2022 08:05 PM PDT I just updated from a 2014 Mac Mini to a 2020 Mac Mini for work. When the old computer was connected to this monitor, everything looked great (connected via display port). Now when I connect the same monitor to the 2020 Mac Mini (via HDMI), it looks pixel-y, and the windows and text look a little larger than they should. In System Preferences > Display, the resolution that the computer reports is correct for the monitor (1920x1080) and none of the other resolution options make it look any better, even after viewing the additional resolution options by pressing 'option.' I've already tried rebooting the computer and rebooting the monitor separately. Edit: I also tried resetting the display settings using the Cmd+Opt+P+R combo on startup and that didn't help either. I don't have any other cables on hand to check if the HDMI cable is the problem, but I just bought this one. What else can I try? As a side note, I'm also having problems with the keyboard. During setup I had to go through a process of keyboard identification, but now my 'control' or command key is not working as it did before. Any help would be appreciated. |
How to disable a floating right arrow button that makes FaceTime calls Posted: 17 Jul 2022 10:51 PM PDT My mom keeps accidentally FaceTiming me and we think it's because of a floating gray button with a right angle bracket on it: I've been trying to help her remotely turn it off. She must have accidentally activated it somehow today, but she is unaware of how it happened. Assistive touch is turned off (confirmed via screen share*). Nothing in control center is highlighted. I've tried searching for it on my phone to figure out what enables it, but I cannot figure it out. I have googled and all I find is suggestions to turn off assistive tough, but that is off. I don't even know how to google it. I've been trolling through assistive access, FaceTime, and phone settings and can find nothing related to that button. What is this button and how do you disable it? *UPDATE: I screen shared with my mom and had her go to settings > Accessibility > touch > assistive touch. It was off. I had her turn it on and a second floating button with a white circle appeared. I had her turn it back off and the circle button went away, but the arrow button remained. |
Printing Error - Stopped - The file '/private/var/spool/cups/tmp/...' could not be opened Posted: 17 Jul 2022 06:00 PM PDT When trying to print a PDF document using Preview (as well as printing any other document from any application), I'm getting the following error about how Every time I print a new document the last section of the path changes. I went into Terminal and listed the contents of that directory ( Tried restarting the computer, printer, and deleted the printer from macOS and re-added it. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm running macOS 10.15.7. |

Stop Xcode from Hijacking my File Associations Posted: 17 Jul 2022 10:44 PM PDT I typically associate certain file types with certain editors and IDEs. You know R with RStudio, Java with JetBrains, and all the other goodies with Sublime Text. But every time I install an Xcode update, Xcode takes over every code-related extension imaginable, and I have to associate my files manually. Is there anyway to prevent Xcode from taking over my file associations? |
A Way to Save Desktop Layouts with Multiple Presets Posted: 17 Jul 2022 10:40 PM PDT Anyone know if there's an app that will not just let you save window positions for multi-display setups, but also create presets for different situations? For example Client A (saved as a preset) -all windows open and size to saved positions -different finder windows open to specific folders and views -browser open to specific tabs at specific addresses -terminal opens up directly to desired directory etc... Client B (saved as a preset) -same idea but maybe different programs, finder locations, etc.. I took a look at "Stay" but it doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for. Also, I'm using El Capitan. Anything like this out there? |
