During Night in the Woods Why is you're third jump in a row always higher?

Posted: 30 Dec 2021 03:06 AM PST

During gameplay in Night in the Woods (2017), if you hold the left\right direction control and press the jump button three times in quick successions you will do two low jumps and then a high jump.

Has this gameplay mechanic been confirmed to serve a purpose during a playthrough, such as being necessary during a particular section, and has the creator ever addressed it?

How can I make a player spawn into a building in The End?

Posted: 30 Dec 2021 04:34 AM PST

I tried to build a small building around the End gateway (to the outer islands) to protect players to spawning out in the open with million Endermans around them).

Save house

My Problem is, no matter how I build the "arrival room" the players always spawn on the roof.

I would like to know if there is a way to make players spawn in a room instead of the highest possible block.

According the Minecraft Wiki about Player spawning (at world spawn) there should be a way to use a grassblock to force the player to spawn there if no other valid locations was found.

Unfortunately there are no further information in the wiki, if the End gateway teleport acts in the same way like the world-spawn.

So my question is:

  1. Are spawning rules for End gateway and world spawn the same like written above?
  2. Is it possible to make the roof an "invalid" spawn-area (e.g. with half-slabs, buttons or anything else)?
  3. Can anybody explain more detailed (e.g. with pictures) how the area must be build to make players spawn in my building?

EDIT: With the information from pinckerman`s answer, I made some more experiments in a copy of our server world and found some new information (in version 1.17.1):

  • when I build my whole roof with half slabs, I spawn on the wall around my building in the fancegate in the corner
  • when I remove the fance, I spawn in the same spot, crouched under the roof (technically "in the building")
  • when I replace the walls against fences (that are too high for a player to crouch, I spawn on the bedrock on the side of the gateway stucking in my roof
  • I tried to raise the whole floor (and ceiling) by one block and repeated the tests -> same result
  • BUT as soon as I replace one of the facegates around the build with a solid block, I keep spawning there

I made multiple testruns for each build-constellation and I was always spawning on exact the same location like listed above.

That means in total:

pinckerman`s answer is mostly correct with following additions:

  • because half slabs are no full blocks, they are considered as "invalid spawn location", but bedrock CAN be a valid spawn locations (when no other full-block is there)
  • when there are no valid spawnblocks under the open sky the game spawns you on the next full block that is next to the open sky, but only when this area is 1.5 blocks high (it doesn't work when it is 2 blocks high)

So it seams that the only way to spawn "inside" is when your build does not have outside-walls and is covered by half slabs e.g. like on this picture:

save house v2

My tests showed that in some points the spawn-rules for gateways are very confusion, so I still would be happy if anybody could find a better solution (at least that you can spawn in a 2 blocks high house).

Stuck in Hades in Zork

I was really far in the game and went to the cellar to then being eaten by something (I forgot) and got transported to Hades.

I read a thing saying to go to an altar and pray but I don't know where it is. You start off with being in front of a bell which you can't pick up (your hand goes through it). The only way you can go is South (or East) and get to the candles, matchbook and black book. You can't read the book, light candles or light a match. You can only go back to where you started, AKA going North. What do I do? I'd rather not start over.

What game is this red-haired Mario character from?

In the Glove and Boots video What Happened to Pauline?, at 1:28 there's an image of a of red-haired girl in a white dress playing volleyball.

She's placed below a photo of Toadette and Rosalina, and just above the Banana Fairy from Donkey Kong 64.

Who is this mystery character and what game is she from?

GTX 970 running at 80°C playing ARMA3 on singleplayer

Posted: 30 Dec 2021 05:23 AM PST

I recently bought a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 970 but the GPU has been running at very high temperatures especially during gameplay. So far I've mostly been playing ARMA3 as it was one of the main reasons I purchased the card. I first tried playing the game on Ultra and on the surface the card preforms well as I have no FPS lag and the game looks beautiful but not long into gameplay the card quickly raised in temperature to 80°C and I could smell very faint burning. In an attempt to lower this I thought running the game at Very High may solve the temperature issues so I closed ARMA3, waited for the GPU to cool down and than tried running the game at Very High but still encountered the same problem. I then tried the same approach at High and Standard and the temperature still goes to 80°C.

My Hardware Specs:

  • Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K
  • GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 970 4GB
  • Memory: 2 x 4GB DDR3 @ 1866Mhz

My CPU is also running on air using the stock cooler and my case has two 120mm Chassis fans, one placed at the front and the other at the back.

I want to know whether the GPU is defective or is this normal behavior for my hardware. I know ARMA3 is a very demanding game and is very poor for benchmarking hardware but to my knowledge I should at least be able to play this game on Standard at a reasonable temperature.

Thanks in advance.
