I deleted and reinstalled Batman Arkham Knight from epic and when I booted the game, my saves were gone. Is there a way to recover my data?

Posted: 23 Dec 2021 08:33 PM PST

I did save some of my data a while back to another folder but Id like to get all of my timed records and progress back. I noticed that in the .../Documents/WB Games/Steam/Batman Arkham Knight folder there is a save data backup with a bunch of files. (I might have messed up that directory, I'm reciting it from memory. Of note is that I own the game on epic and do not own the game on steam, and yet there are still apparently backup saves in a folder labeled "steam".) However, these files have a date at the end of their file extension (i.e. *.sgm_xx_xx_20xx). When I get rid of the date extension, the game recognizes the file as save data, but says that it's corrupted and shows 0% game progress. Is there any way to make this data work with the epic version of the game? Is there any other way to recover save data after deleting and reinstalling the game? Would I be able to access this data if I bought the steam version of the game?

How can I reset controller configuration for a specific game in Steam?

Posted: 23 Dec 2021 05:26 PM PST

Background

I own a PS5 controller, my operating system is Ubuntu 22.04. I installed a new game in steam, and it was listed as having partial controller support. I did not see any controller configuration in the "Controls" menu, so I set my controller to mimic a keyboard and mouse. However, this was terrible, so I decided to poke around in the options again, and for whatever reason, there were gamepad options displayed, and with a PS5 controller option, no less.

The Problem

Because I had previously used Steam's Controller Configuration menu, I cannot remove the existing controller configuration to pass through my controller, only replace the existing configuration, or alter it. So Steam recognizes my controller as a PS5, but when I select the "Gamepad" option, or try to manually set a layout, it defaults to setting my controller up as an Xbox controller. While I can technically use this, it means that the wrong buttons will be displayed in game, which is non-ideal.

What I would like

I would like to either:

  • Erase Steam's controller configuration specifically for this game, thus forcing it to pass through the default config (My controller is currently set up fine with Steam (It recognises it as a Dualsense, not a Dualshock 4), and with other games, and it would be more than a bit of a faff to redo that work). Manual is ok. I am more than experienced enough to remove or edit a configuration file manually, to remove this config. I'm just unable to locate where game-specific controller bindings are stored.

  • Set up a binding using Steam's Controller Configuration menu that outputs PS5 controls to the game. This is "less clean", however it still solves the problem. I was unable to wrangle the controller menu to do this, as the controller mapping buttons in the selection menu are all Xbox buttons.

How can I check if my Minecraft client is vulnerable to Log4j?

Posted: 23 Dec 2021 07:37 PM PST

I know that the Log4Shell exploit in Log4j allows attackers to run arbitrary commands on people's computers, and that Minecraft is vulnerable. Is there a Minecraft server that I can join which will tell me if my client is patched or if I'm vulnerable? If not, is there another way that I can check if the vulnerability exists on my system?

Who is the Command Initiator? Minecraft

Posted: 24 Dec 2021 06:32 AM PST

I have been playing Minecraft for years and have an ok understanding of the command system inhabiting it. What troubles me the most recently revolves around the command initiator. As we all know @s refers to the entity who called the command, otherwise known as the initiator. It appears to me that commands are most often issued by entities, and there are exceptions. One of the imminent examples is Command Block. Command Blocks are definitely not entities, but they can initiate commands at their own location, although they cannot be referred back to using @s. Another thing is that when the game runs a data pack, I imagine that the lines of commands would be added to the gameplay loop. So is it that the system initiated the command? Can I /execute as the system? I know that scheduled commands are run by no entities therefore it presumably is run by the system. Finally, in a server, you can enter console commands outside the game. Are these commands all run by the system?

In general, is it that the commands initiated by server consoles, command blocks, or a data pack are executed directly by the system instead of any entities in the game?

What does Gift Of Blood / blood lightning do?

As in the title, what does it do? I've seen lots of blog posts and forum threads asking this, but I don't see any definite answers yet.

Command block comparator not outputting redstone signal outside 32 blocks. Minecraft Java 1.16.2

Posted: 23 Dec 2021 09:03 PM PST

I have a command block hooked up to a comparator that powers some other command blocks. When I have a specific item held in my offhand it emits a redstone output. However, when I go further than 32 blocks from the command block it stops outputting a signal.

I've tried building a chunk loader, I've tried changing the world spawn to the same chunk as the command block, I've even tried using /forceload on the chunk but nothing worked.

Help?

How do I get access to edit a config file in a WindowsApps Folder?

Posted: 23 Dec 2021 06:02 PM PST

I have a Windows 10 machine and a version of Ark I installed from the Windows Store. There is a certain Dino that shall remain nameless that I just don't want in my game anymore but I cannot edit the game.ini file.

I have taken ownership of the folder and its contents, I have explicitly added the local admin to the folder and it's contents and I still cannot edit the file.

I do not have a copy of the default file so I have not tried using a recovery console and powershell to overwrite the file but if someone can tell me where to get the default .ini file then I will certainly give this a shot. I did try making a copy of the file to my documents folder but windows told me that I needed the permission of the user I was already logged in as to copy the file.

I am running 1909 build 18363.657.

Let me know if you can help me out.

Update 20200215: Attempting to open any ini file with either Notepad or Notepad++ running with elevated privileges results in "You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission."

What is the easiest way to beat the first gym in Pokemon Reborn? I eventually got through it by some luck and sheer save bashing, but was there an easier way?
