Is it worth to let a dweller go in exploration till he/she dies?

Posted: 28 Sep 2021 04:24 AM PDT

I noticed that the revival cost may be inferior to the caps and experience gained during exploration and the equipment found.

I checked out this question for understanding how much it costs to revive a dweller, and in the case illustrated in the best answer (I'll post the photo below) the cost of reviving is inferior to the total loot.

dead dweller

Is it always worth to send a dweller exploring, and let them go ahead till they die?

How long can I break obsidian with Mining Fatigue 255?

I'm trying to figure out how long it takes to break one piece of obsidian with my fist with Mining Fatigue 255. How long does it take? How about underwater? With a pickaxe?

How does the luxury index affect demand?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 07:14 PM PDT

Each product in Capitalism 2 has a necessity index and a luxury index.

I understand what the necessity index does: necessity of 10 (i.e. 100%) means no change in demand during recessions, high necessity means low decrease in demand during recessions, and low necessity means high decrease in demand during recessions. However, I don't know what the luxury index does. How does the luxury index affect demand?

For reference, below is a screenshot of Capitalism 2's product database where the luxury index for each product appears in the column named "LUXURY":

How to /tell a Player an NBT property of a item on 1.12.2?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 12:54 PM PDT

I'm trying to create a small basketball game on my server (from scratch to learn command blocks).

To test that it's working, I'm trying to have the Basketball item tell me who threw it. However, whenever I try this:

/execute @e[type=item,r=3] ~ ~ ~ /tell @p @s [{Thrower}]

it doesn't work.

Is it possible to have a NBT tag property in a tell command? Or is there something else I have to do?

I'm on version 1.12.2

Multiple connections to CS 1.6 server from 2 public IPs

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 09:41 PM PDT

I have created a CS1.6 server to play with my office colleagues. The issue is that in our office network we have only 2 public ips allocated so when the third person tries to join the cs server it says the username/host is already login. Can you tell me what we should do to overcome this error?

Where are my Feed The Beast files stored?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 06:08 PM PDT

I am using FTB's new app launcher, which means many of the previous questions on FTB's modpack file locations don't seem to apply anymore.

The FTB app launcher seems to use the Overwolf app, so I tried looking through the Overwolf folder in Program Files (x86) with no results.

I also tried looking through the %appdata% folder but only found save files for another Overwolf app. There seems to be nothing in my .minecraft folder either.

It appears FTB doesn't save modpacks in folders with clear names as curseforge does.

So, where are my FTB modpack files located?

What counts towards ascension achievements? (Cookie Clicker)

I've been farming for the Reincarnation achievement, but I want to be sure what counts as an ascension. Do I need to gain prestige every run, or can I just spam-click the Legacy button?

How I play Minecraft in fullscreen but keep my taskbar?

Why can't I create a new file in Bridge V2?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 11:31 AM PDT

I am trying to create an addon for Minecraft and have decided to use bridge V2. As I am new to the software, I decided to watch a few tutorials and all of them show how to create a New File. When I press the New File button nothing happens, whereas all the other buttons work.

Could you explain to me why this isn't working and what the solution is? Thanks.

1.17 Custom Model Data Not Working

Posted: 28 Sep 2021 04:58 AM PDT

I'm not sure where my problem is stemming from, as I have several dozen custom models working in the current test resource pack I'm trying things out within. So, I've been trying to add a few new models, the models work individually when I place their file path in the "parent" directory, but I can't seem to get them to function with the Custom Model Data like I have in my previous models.

Saved as: "oak_sapling.json" in the "model/item" folder.

{  "__comment":"Made by Lew",    "parent": "item/flora/tree_apple_sapling",    "textures": {      "block":    "item/flora/tree_apple_sapling",      "particle": "item/oak_sapling"      },        "overrides": [          {              "predicate": { "custom_model_data": 1 }, "model": "item/flora/tree_apple_sapling"          },          {              "predicate": { "custom_model_data": 2 }, "model": "item/flora/tree_apple_mature"          },          {              "predicate": { "custom_model_data": 3 }, "model": "item/flora/tree_apple_flowering"          },          {              "predicate": { "custom_model_data": 4 }, "model": "item/flora/tree_apple_smallfruit"          },          {              "predicate": { "custom_model_data": 5 }, "model": "item/flora/tree_apple_fruited"          }      ]  }

Eliminating spaces, changing the item used for the model's base, changing the custom_model_data integer, moving the files to the "model/block" directory, and pasting in the format of other working files hasn't fixed the issue. I've been looking between the working files and this one for several hours and haven't been able to spot where its point(s) of failure is.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Is possible to win a game of Yankee Doodle in the Vita version of the game? (touchpad usage)

Posted: 28 Sep 2021 01:30 AM PDT

On the PS3 version of Project Diva f 2nd, you play Yankee Doodle by moving the analog sticks and pressing L3/R3 when required. On the Vita version, you have to slide or tap the screen which makes it almost impossible due to the speed on levels 2 and 3.

Is possible to win a game of Yankee Doodle in the Vita version of the game? If so, Does it requires a specific trick or something like that?

Can you disable the blood on Nidhogg?

"checksum bad" error loading rom with hack Snes9x

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 09:02 PM PDT

I have been using the Snes9x emulator to run Super Metroid for some years now. Today, I discovered hacks and have been experimenting with Hyper Metroid, for example. I have downloaded Lunar IPS to apply the hacks to the roms.

While I got Hyper Metroid to work, I am having trouble getting the infamous Justin Bailey hack to work. Every time I try to run it I get some yellow text saying "checksum bad", and a jumbled up Nintendo logo in the middle. Nothing else happens, unless I load a saved state. Even though I can still play the game, Samus leaves something to be desired.

Anyone know how to fix this?

What is hidden behind the scrambled text in the end poem?

Posted: 28 Sep 2021 03:39 AM PDT

The end poem - displayed after killing the ender dragon and entering the portal - contains two sections that have certain words scrambled.

GIF with the scrambled text

It worked, with a million others, to sculpt a true world in a fold of the XXXXXX, and created a XXXXXX for XXXXX, in the XXX.

Sometimes I do not care. Sometimes I wish to tell them, this world you take for truth is merely XXXXX and XXXXXX, I wish to tell them that they are XXX in the XXXXXX. They see so little of reality, in their long dream.

Normally, such text is obtained with Minecraft's formatting codes, in particular §k, and is unreadable for the player through any in-game means - for all intents and purposes it's gibberish and nothing more.

But if you look outside the game, the situation isn't as clear-cut. The formatting code works like all other formatting codes, by transforming the subsequent text. The only purpose for the text in this case is to determine the length of the displayed gibberish - through simple substitution; §kXXXXX§r will produce 5 characters worth of gibberish, and the X can be replaced by any 5-letter text. With one special caveat: the displayed gibberish characters are the same width as the 'source' characters; §kW§r will produce a wider gibberish character than §kl§r.

But there is no inherent limitation on what the underlying text is in particular, and it is stored like any other text. It can be a secret message only accessible to someone digging through the game files.

I found the file containing the end poem. I checked what changes it underwent from 1.0 where it first appeared in an official release, until newest 1.17 snapshot. The only differences were a single one-letter typo fixed, and the name of the file changing from win.txt to end.txt. The contents of the entries remained the same - and just as baffling:

§3It worked, with a million others, to sculpt a true world in a fold of the §f§k§a§b§3, and created a §f§k§a§b§3 for §f§k§a§b§3, in the §f§k§a§b§3.

§2Sometimes I do not care. Sometimes I wish to tell them, this world you take for truth is merely §f§k§a§b§2 and §f§k§a§b§2, I wish to tell them that they are §f§k§a§b§2 in the §f§k§a§b§2. They see so little of reality, in their long dream.

The first thought was a disappointment. The meaning of §f§k§a§b§3 would be: §f - white text (sure these bits are white). §k - obfuscated. §a§b - two dummy color changes (green and aqua) that are no-op; §3 return to the same color as the speaker's (meaning return to standard). In Java Edition the color change resets the special formattings. My thought was the extra color changes are there as a filler to produce the characters without putting any meaningful text behind them.

But it's not that easy. The sequences are the same in both segments, only differing with the last digit, to restore the speaker's original color - §3 (dark aqua) or §2 (dark green); there are no meaningful differences there. But the output differs. The words of the first segment are 6, 6, 5 and 3 characters respectively; the second's - 5, 6, 3, 6.

The way the 'gibberish' is rendered changed 4 times in Minecraft history, but as I checked videos of the ending from different periods, these word lengths remained the same - and they are not present in end.txt. It seems they must be somewhere else, possibly hardcoded - maybe as actual words, maybe just as character counts, or maybe even generated through some pseudorandom algorithm with a fixed seed.

So here is my question - what lies behind that scrambled text? How are these specific eight words stored or generated, as opposed to every generic §k entry everywhere else?

Note: I'm perfectly aware the text is not meant to be understood, and I fully expect the answer to be something pretty dull, like uniform strings like "aaaaaa" but I still want this secret uncovered.

How to use the custom design app to make a checkered pattern with sharp corners?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 02:33 PM PDT

I'm trying my hand at my first custom design. I want to make a red/pink/white checkered picnic blanket. Sounds simple, right? I made my design using the 3x3 pen tool, marking 3x3 squares in different colors to create the pattern.

I already noticed while I was designing, but as soon as I put my design on the floor, the corners are rounded and the blanket looks more polka-dotted than checkered.

Is there a way to create a checkered pattern, one that will keep the sharp corners?

Using testfor to find a player who has left a zone (1.12.2)

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 05:16 PM PDT

I have Minecraft 1.12.2 (for Java Editon), and I'm trying to make a contraption that will keep spectators of certain levels within a certain area. I already have something that works, but it only works with one player. My command is show below:

/testfor @a[x=79,y=53,z=-102,dx=25,dy=25,dz=25,m=3]

The command checks if there is anyone within the zone. However, it doesn't check which players leaves the zone, but only the last person who left it. I need a command that will check if any spectators leave the zone. There are also multiple levels, 12 to be exact. Each level will need its own spectator zone and I don't want them to interfere with each other. I have tried /testfor @a[!x=79,!y=53,!z=-102,dx=25,dy=25,dz=25,m=3] but it doesnt work. Any help would be appreciated!

How do you know how many Super Sea Snails you have?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 02:33 PM PDT

In Splatoon2, of course you get Super Sea Snails by:

  • get one when you level up a ranked level, eg B to B+

  • get 20 or so if you play in a Splatfest

and you can use Super Sea Snails in aid of building equipment sets to

  • make a slot in gear

  • reroll a full gear

But how do you know how many Super Sea Snails you have?!

I cannot find this info anywhere!

Does getting the "bad" ending in Far Cry 5 change the pause menu?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 07:35 PM PDT

I finished the game a little while back and earned the "good" ending in which you

This ending affects the pause menu in a way I find distracting and unrewarding. If I were to replay the game again and choose the alternate ending in which

do the in-game changes that stem from the good ending repeat, affecting the main menu and pause menu, do these menus remain unchanged, or is there a different menu for this alternate ending?

What does "★20% damage" mean in Dead Cells?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 02:34 PM PDT

In a game of Dead Cells (with the new update), I just received this item (emphasis mine, sorry but I can't get a screenshot of any quality here easily):

Electric Whip V

442 DPS
+50% damage

Automatically targets nearby enemies. Ignores shields.

★20% damage

◆+30% damage to a burning target

What does "★20% damage" mean? Is it a typo that is supposed to say "+20% damage"? Is it a mis-starred downside that makes my attacks only deal 20% damage?

I am playing on Nintendo Switch.

A bad screenshot.

Queen Mirelurk SURVIVAL [duplicate]

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 06:35 PM PDT

What is the best way to kill the Queen Mirelurk on SURVIVAL level difficulty? Missles, Rifles, and mini-nukes are practically worthless and you cannot heal in combat. In addition the Queen's poison attack bypasses all armor (only a rare legendary item gives poison any resistance and its an insignificant amount).

Steam Link streaming causes low frame rates

Posted: 28 Sep 2021 04:01 AM PDT

I pre-ordered the Steam link/Steam controller through the steam website and just got it on Friday, but I'm having some issues.

Problem:

I'm loving the Steam controller but my problem lies with the Steam link. I've been trying to stream Gone Home, Binding of Issac: Rebirth, Star Wars Battlefront II, and Skull Girls but all of them will not stream over 30 fps. Gone home doesn't even go past 25 fps. Though Bioshock Infinite, Half life 2, and Tomb Raider (2013) can run above 30 usually 40s to 60s.

I was using the "Display Performance Information" option while streaming and took a screenshot while playing Star Wars Battlefront II. I've attached a picture of the output:

I thought it might be the two ethernet switches that I have in between my main computer and the steam link but I connected both to a gigabit ethernet switch, used only CAT6 cables and got the same results.

Information about my setup:

  • Every switch that is in my house is a gigabit ethernet switch.
  • I have an Apple Time Capsule wireless AC/Gigabit ethernet router.
  • My computers motherboard has a gigabit ethernet jack as well.
  • I am running Windows 10 Pro, GTX 780ti OC, AMD FX-6100 Six-Core 3.30 GHz, 16GB RAM.

More information:

  • I have Hardware Encoding ON, on my main computer, and have Decoding ON, when using the steam link. Having both off gives the same results, and having one on but not the other gives the same results.
  • Having changed the settings to Fast, Beautiful, or Balanced does not changed any results.

Is there any settings I have to change on my computer, or anything that I'm lacking? How do I get an output of higher than at least 40 FPS?

This also happens on Laptop, so it is not Steam Link.

Dota2 reborn download keeps restarting

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 02:04 PM PDT

I've been downloading Dota2 reborn and when it reached nearly 55% I exited Steam as I had to download another program. When I reopened Steam the download starts again from 0% and due to my slow internet connection it would take like 3 hours to reach 55%. So is there any way to resume the download where I left off?

How do I survive my first night?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 06:33 PM PDT

I'm on my first night at Freddy's, and I can't seem to get past the first night. The issue is if I keep the camera on room 1A then the monsters/bots don't seem to do anything, and my Power keeps going down, but the time doesn't seem to go by.

Once they start to move they gradually get closer to the Security Room, and then I'm forced to lock the door. Typically I can survive until 4AM, or 5Am, but usually my Power will run out then I die.

So, how can I survive the first night at Freddy's?

How do I access the global market in SimCity?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 06:33 PM PDT

I'm unable to find any real documentation if this feature is even released yet as part of SimCity 2013.

Is there a way to access the global market within SimCity World? Apart from just selling commodities though my trade depot I was under the impression there was a way to do analysis and look at trends in market prices.

When I go to SimCity World I only have Leaderboards and Challenges. At least one of my cities in the region has a Trade HQ.

Is it possible to earn enough skulls to unlock everything in Orcs Must Die 2?

Is it possible to earn enough skulls that you will not run out before unlocking everything that you can spend skulls on in Orcs Must Die 2?

What is my succession law, exactly?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 07:34 PM PDT

I'm new to CK2 and I get confused a lot.

I started as Earl of Ulster, and before my initial Earl died, I changed succession law to 'elective'. I made my daughter elected (barely - some mayor almost got elected instead). A bit later she was able to claim the title of Duchess of Ulster.

But then I notice that my succession law is Gavelkind. I said to myself 'This is probably how it works', and continued playing. But then I noticed popups about who supports who continue to happen! And they talk about County of Ulster, not Duchy:

Is this a bug? Or am I missing something here?

In the consortium, level 2 of Starfront Collision - how to get/pass the stealth'ed monsters

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 09:02 PM PDT

Total noob question, but in the iOS/Gameloft game, Starfront: Collisions, I have just started it and in level 2 of the Consortium campaign, you have to take out/over a radar - but it's protected by some stealthed monsters that we don't seem to be able to attack.

Here is me getting wiped again:

The game suggests some lander vehicle but that gets wiped as soon as it gets near them.

Thanks in advance for any hints/tips.

Is there a way to skip the opening logos in Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

Posted: 27 Sep 2021 06:34 PM PDT

I'm really enjoying the newest Deus Ex, but I'm not enjoying sitting through the logos of the assorted developers and publishers each time the game loads. I remember modifying a file (maybe a .ini) in Borderlands to skip its opening logos so it wasn't so tedious, but I can't remember how this was done, or if the same thing is possible in DE:HR.

Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!
