Can't mod weapons in New Vegas

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 10:41 PM PDT

I just bought a scope for my hunting rifle and when I moused over it and pressed x nothing happened. The option to mod it isn't grayed out, and I've tried buying other weapons and mods and they didn't work either. I know it isn't a gra/non-gra issue, and I can't think of anything else. I only have a couple mods for the game, and I tried disabling them with the same results. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Game Jolt game package still running after game crash

Posted: 24 Mar 2022 01:56 AM PDT

I installed the game Around the Clock at Bikini Bottom on Game Jolt, I open up the game to have it crash, but Game Jolt says the package is still running and I have limited things that I can seem to do.

I have shut down my PC multiple times and I have deleted the files before as well, but Game Jolt says it's still running the package and so I can't remove it from my library. Game Jolt will not give me the option to uninstall or close the game. Also, the game runs in 64 bit and my computer does as well so I'm not sure what to do.

Do Squirrel Bits Actually Come From Squirrels in Fallout 4?

Posted: 24 Mar 2022 06:12 AM PDT

There are two main things that led me to this question: 1) I've never seen a squirrel in the Commonwealth, and 2) I learned that some meat sources are intentionally mislabeled (see Longneck Lukowski's Cannery, Doc Morbid, or Iguana Bob Frazier for more information).

Investigating squirrel meat in the Commonwealth and the Fallout Universe, I viewed the Fandom pages for Squirrel Bits (Fallout 4), Crispy Squirrel Bits (Fallout 4), Squirrel Stew, Crispy Squirrel Bits (general), Squirrel on a Stick, and finally, Squirrel.

One note from the Squirrel Stew page says:

Its commonality is strange as there are no squirrels to be found in the wastes, aside from those in Appalachia.

Another note, this one from Crispy Squirrel Bits (general), says:

Living squirrels can only be found in Fallout 76, yet there are still crispy squirrel bits in several of the games.

From the same page:

Crispy squirrel bits are squirrel kebabs that can be found in refrigerators or purchased from merchants. Another variety is found in the Commonwealth, which are cut up squirrel bits.

At first I took the second sentence to mean that it was indeed squirrel meat, but after considering, it is possible that the difference only denotes the format in which the meat is presented and not the veracity of its source.

Regarding the Squirrel on a Stick:

Squirrel on a stick is a common staple food eaten by denizens of the wasteland, made by ramming a stick through a squirrel and roasting it over an open fire, camping style.

The good news here is that squirrels, despite their lack of appearance in the Commonwealth, do canonically exist. However, the "on a stick" variant is the only one that I am confident in it actually being squirrel meat.

Do squirrel bits actually come from squirrels, or do they come from a more nefarious source?

Is the Combat Knife in Fallout 4 a 1219C2 KA-BAR knife?

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 12:35 PM PDT

Knives come in many shapes and sizes, but I noticed that the combat knife looks particularly similar to a KABAR that I own. So I started comparing images, particularly noticing the blade profile, fuller, ricasso, grip, and rounded pommel.

In game, Standard:

In game, Serrated variant: enter image description here

In game, Stealth variant: enter image description here

From KA-BAR: enter image description here

Also from KA-BAR: enter image description here

All-black variant from A.G. Russell Knives: enter image description here

Though I feel like I may have found the right knife, I have not as yet found any information to confirm or contradict my belief. Looking through the Fandom page for the Combat Knife, I did not learn any model details. The Wikipedia page doesn't say anything about Fallout, but does make an interesting note that corresponds with the timeline:

Ka-Bar is the contemporary popular name for the combat knife first adopted by the United States Marine Corps in November 1942 as the 1219C2 combat knife (later designated the USMC Mark 2 combat knife or Knife, Fighting Utility), and subsequently adopted by the United States Navy as the U.S. Navy utility knife, Mark 2.

Broadening my search, I tried to find articles that refer to knives generally in gaming, hoping I might find a new lead. So far, the articles I have found have not yielded any useful information (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Can anyone confirm or deny with a game file, Bethesda statement, or other authoritative source that the Combat Knife in Fallout 4 is a 1219C2 KA-BAR knife?

What affects the strength of Resistance soldiers in Xcom 2?

Posted: 24 Mar 2022 05:47 AM PDT

So I really enjoy the 'Defend/Rescue missions' and in the most recent one I've played the Resistance soldiers were real badass. After I rescued the first group unscathed, they basically handled 5 enemies at once by themselves. Their damaged having been bumped up from 2 since the beginning of the game to now 6. I believe they also have more HP now.

So what affected this upgrade? Is it over time? Because I had a Relay in that region? Because some tech I unlocked gave them better weaponry? Can they get even better?

What is the default Java executable file on Mac?

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 09:06 PM PDT

When I click the 3 dots next to an installation of Minecraft (in my case 1.18.1), and click Advanced, it doesn't mention anything in the Executable path under Java Settings (Advanced).

So my question is: What's the default Java executable on Mac for Minecraft?

What is the record word size for a gaming system?

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 12:44 PM PDT

Related: What does 8-bit / 16-bit actually refer to?

I remember the "bit wars" of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Genesis/Mega Drive and the Turbografx-16 were heavily marketed as having twice as many "bits" as old-school Famicoms and such. A few years later, Atari returned with its monstrous "64 bit"!!1!11one Jaguar system which was pwned by the Nintendo 64 and Sony PlayStation.

Starting around 2000, word size seems to have faded out of the world of gaming marketing and criticism. It became all about having wowie-zowie immersive 3D graphics, raw bit count be damned. Without a spec sheet, I couldn't tell you how many bits a PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, or 3DS has, nor have I cared enough to check before buying one.

So, my question is, how high has word size actually gone in terms of gaming consoles? Was there ever a 128-bit console? 256? 512? 1024? How about a 2048-bit monstrosity? If I am dreaming of creating the world's first 4096-bit Mega Word Pwnage Rhinocerous9000 XL 2022, would that be a record or would I just be an also-ran in the lost Bit Wars?

To be clear, I'm not asking for a definition of or explanation of word size. I'm asking a historical question. I'm also not asking why word size is no longer prominent in marketing, but more interested in whether bit size continued to grow behind the scenes or whether "more bits" is pretty much dead in terms of gaming. In other words, does the fading out of reference to bits in game console advertising represent a technological stagnation in word size growth (i.e. we are still playing on 32 and/or 64 bit machines 20+ years after they became standard), or did word size continue to grow on the technical side but was no longer emphasized for marketing purposes?

check for 3 or more blocks in inventory

Posted: 24 Mar 2022 12:04 AM PDT

I need to check for three or more cobblestone in a player's inventory using command blocks, I know how to check for the exact amount but not or more. let's say the player has 3 cobblestone in their inventory, the command "execute at @a[nbt={Inventory:[{id:"minecraft:cobblestone",Count:3b}]}] run say hi" works great, but if the player has 10 it doesn't work.

What is a wipe in Escape from Tarkov?

Battlestate Games recently tweeted there will be wipe in the upcoming 0.12.11 patch. Viewing the responses shows that players are incredibly excited for it, but it's unclear what a wipe actually is and what it entails for the game.

Clear lag without joining world

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 03:06 PM PDT

I am currently playing a custom modpack with a friend, and we are mining cobblestone with a buildcraft quarry. Now the chest we are feeding the cobblestone into is full and we have a bunch of cobblestone laying on the ground. It is so much cobblestone that the server we are playing on immediately crashes when the chunk is loaded. I have downloaded the world and tried to play it in singleplayer. When joining the world it loaded for about a minute or so, then I could see a part of the world and a bunch of cobblestone on the ground, then the game crashed.

Is there any way to get rid of all that cobblestone without joining the world?

We are playing on forge 1.12.2.

resource pack not not showing up

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 08:08 PM PDT

I'm running latest 1.16 Android version of Minecraft Bedrock under Linux using the mcpelauncher. I want to create my own custom paintings, so I tried to download some and install them so I could see how it was done. However, when I unzip the downloaded file to ~/.local/share/mcpelauncher/games/com.mojang/resource_packs/pack_name it does not show up. I have tried both under settings (global resources) and for a specific map. Both files I found were advertised as being 16x16 - I have read that some larger images may require additional work to get them up and running so I thought this would be the most simple. I also read that it's possible that different versions of Minecraft have different resource pack formats. Both packs I downloaded were advertised for "Minecraft 1.16" although I don't know if there are any other non-Android/Bedrock versions with this same number.

The format of the unzipped directory is a pack.mcmeta containing pack_format 5, as well as a pack.png and an assets folder containing the actual resources.

Does the RepairedOnMe command work? If so, what's the point of it?

Posted: 24 Mar 2022 01:07 AM PDT

One of the obscure Morrowind script commands is RepairedOnMe, which the UESP documentation says works as follows:

Returns 1 if the calling object is repaired by given object, or 0 otherwise. For example,

if ( "banhammer_unique"->RepairedOnMe, "repair_journeyman_01" == 1 )

checks against a Banhammer being repaired by a journeyman's hammer. Obviously, the ObjectID should be a valid repair item and the calling item should be a weapon or armor.

Does this command even work? A talk page user said that the example didn't work for them, and I don't have a Windows machine to test myself.

If it does work, what's the point of RepairedOnMe? Do any mods do anything useful with that call? None of the vanilla scripts use it, so I'm wondering if it does anything useful.

Is there anything about the macOS 64-bit Steam Client installed on Mojave macOS that would interfere with playing 32-bit games?

Posted: 24 Mar 2022 04:04 AM PDT

I realize the next version beyond Mojave macOS may enforce a 64-bit application restriction. Is there potentially something about the 64-bit Steam Client for the current Mojave macOS 10.14 that could prevent playing 32-bit games distributed and/or installed through it?

For example: this older bundle of games with OS X versions that appear to run on macOS 10.13, despite their requirements sections each listing a more limited version range.

Most of the digging I've done indicates games like the examples above will be playable but I wanted to be sure I'm not missing something about the Steamworks SDK, its Custom Executable Generation (CEG) or a some other detail.

I've never seen Valve, game developers or technical resources plainly answer this particular question, though this comment that doesn't mention macOS specifically indicates it should be fine. Other reading points me in that direction but I'm looking for something definitive.

I also understand that:

Why did my Xbox One Controller stop working with Steam?

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 11:04 PM PDT

I have a MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4

I've been connecting an Xbox One controller wirelessly through Bluetooth to play games on Steam and it has worked fine. But recently, the Xbox controller no longer works with Steam. I can connect the controller fine and it recognizes that a an Xbox controller is connected when I go to the settings in Big Picture Mode. But it doesn't actually let me control the menus in Big Picture Mode or control anything in-game. Not sure what has changed to cause the issue. The controller is not the issue because I have tried different other Xbox One controllers.

I did notice that these issues started to appear after I checked "Turn off on Big Picture Exit" in controller settings. I'm not sure if this is related to the problem or merely a coincidence. I've since tried it without that box checked.

I have updated Steam to the most recent build since this event, but the problems started(and continue to persist) before I updated Steam.

Xbox Configuration Support is on, Big Picture Mode is on, controller is recognized by Steam, but the problem persists.

Any reasons why I may be having this problem? Any possible fixes?

Update:

When I plug in the controller through usb it works fine.

Player heads linked to player skin id

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 02:01 PM PDT

I know it is possible to give a player head with say ID of whatever skin you want but, I want to make it give the player head with the precise skin at the time the player is killed. I just don't want when the skin has changed the head to change to the new skin I want it to preserve the current skin when you are killed.

For instance, if Player X has Skin A, it gives the player head with Skin A, but if it has Skin B, it gives Skin B.

So the question is can you test for which skin ID it is and can you pass that skin ID onto the give command?

I can work out most of the command myself but I am not sure if there any way to test which skin is on to retrieve that skin ID and then set that skin ID and the skull you give.

This one gives you how you give the specific head with certain skin How to make custom player heads without making multiple accounts? just not how you can find it.

How Do I Detect Swamps in Screeps

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 06:22 PM PDT

In screeps, I can see swamps using my browser window. However, I can find no way for my script to detect if the terrain is a swamp except for having my creeps walk around marking swamps they encounter as they go. Are there any other ways to detect swamps?

Simulation and Survival mode not equal?

Can a creep commit suicide?

Posted: 23 Mar 2022 06:23 PM PDT

I am programming a script for my guards, if the guard can't move, make the guard commit suicide, so my system can spawn a new one again.

But how do I do that? It's not listed in the docs. I am looking for something like this:

creep.commitSuicide();
