I'm running out of RAM and I want to find out how to transfer entire music and photo libraries to an external SSD, then delete everything on the Mac, start new libraries and still be able to view/listen to the old stuff.  |

I've recently had police delete footage off my phone, am taking them to court. Can't get the videos back as I accidentally overwrote them when my iCloud backed up, but I have received the data back from Forensics (I sent my phone to them). I'm not a coder or anything but could use your brains trust to help me decipher some funny business. Some of it may be innocent, but the 3 days my phone was with the police there's definitely activity. I'm just trying to ascertain if some of it is useful for court. Cheers in advance! Jess  |

User dae on the Anki forums identified the characters as the First Strong Isolate (U+2068) and Pop Strong Isolate (U+2069) characters. Checking the fontPeering into a running Anki process, the widgets are using the font family ".SF NS Text", the system font. The installed system font (/System/Library/Fonts/SFNSText.ttf) has version 14.0d1e3 (retrieved with FontForge), but unfortunately Apple's list of Mojave's fonts doesn't include the versions for system fonts. The "14" is suggestive of Mojave, though High Sierra includes some fonts with a major version of 14. The greatest font version in Sierra is 12. My installed system font is copyrighted 2015–2017, a period during which Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra and High Sierra were active (though only the latter 4 were in support in 2017, and only the latter 2 were the latest version of macOS during 2017). Other evidenceAnki is the only application I've noticed this in, but other Anki users have not experienced the issue. Moreover, if I create a new user on my computer and open Anki, it does not display the question-mark-in-a-box glyph. I recall first seeing the problem in High Sierra, which was a clean install with user data imported from a Time Machine backup. The problem has persisted through updates & reinstalls. | How to reset the keyboard mapping? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 02:55 PM PDT After installing a system upgrade the "end" button on the external keyboard stopped working. Several months ago I had some modifications somewhere to make the home/end button function the same natural way which they work on other operating systems (like Windows). I don't remember what I did, but I need to reset all keyboard re-mapping to reconfigure the keys again. Using Karabiner Event Viewer, I can see that the keypress is not detected at all when I press the "end" key. (the external keyboard is flawless when is connected to a Windows machine.)  |
| Anomalous "application" appeared Posted: 02 Oct 2021 02:05 PM PDT I am using a macOS Big Sur. An anomalous application (or pseudo-application) appeared in my Dock. Its logo is an interrogation bar and it is named "Essia-Latest". I'm unsure about its origin. If I right-click it, only an "Options" option is displayed. Clicking it leads to no apparent results. I don't seem to be able to open it, find its file (if there's any), or see if it is doing anything through the Activity Monitor. The possibility of it being some form of malware concerns me (and I am also curious about its nature). Can anyone help me (please)?

| Is there a shortcut for selecting the desktop? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:18 PM PDT I use the Show Desktop feature quite often, but I find it a bit annoying that I always have to click on the blank space on the desktop before being able to control it with my keyboard (i.e. finding a folder by entering the first character and opening it with Cmd+O). Is there a shortcut or some other keyboard-based way to select the Desktop/Finder? I know that it is possible to switch between apps by Cmd+Tab but it will open a new Finder window instead of just selecting the Desktop, which is what I am looking for.  |
| Batch Converting RTF to Markdown? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 04:04 PM PDT Anyone have any help, tools, advice, etc. on batch converting RTF to Markdown in MacOS? I've used Automator a little but when I tried the advice in this thread, I couldn't get it to work. I'd love some advice on how I can handle this. I was able to install the linked services from Brett Terpstra, though they don't really show up in Quick Actions or in Automator, but only in the Touch Bar controls for some reason.
When I try to install the RTF to Markdown service from the thread, it doesn't seem to show up in Services or Quick Actions. When I drag the service into Automator, and try to run it, I just get an error.
I truly don't know what I'm doing wrong or how to get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!  |

| CarPlay keeps crashing Pioneer stereo receiver Posted: 02 Oct 2021 02:04 PM PDT This issue only started for me yesterday, as everything was working fine the day before. Every time I plug my 12 Pro Max into the Pioneer stereo, it completely restarts the head unit over and over. My friend plugged his iPhone into it, with no issues. Not sure how this is happening. I'm using a genuine Apple cable, I'm running the latest version of iOS, I've tried restarting, and nothing works. Extremely frustrating situation so any help is appreciated.  |

| backlit keyboard turns ON after shutdown or in sleep in MacBook Air M1 Posted: 02 Oct 2021 03:08 PM PDT My 10 days old MacBook Air M1 laptop is behaving abnormally i.e it's Keyboard Backlit light turns ON after I Shutdown my laptop or put it on sleep. The light starts flashing or becomes still. And when I turn MacBook On it becomes normal just like before. Currently it is running on BigSur 11.5.2 I have also went to system preferences. I have tried Diagnostics test but no issue was found.  |

If I choose "Allow" or "Deny", the dialog box will pop back up roughly a half dozen times in succession. Using Keychain Access, I find no item named "Xcode Server Builder Identity" in the login keychain or otherwise (the only item mentioning "XCode" in the login keychain predates any of this), nor in the server certificates for the system Apache server (which the XCode server seemed to want to use). Why is Skype trying to use this key? Where is it stored? How can I stop the prompts (short of always allowing access)?  |

| Globally Disable Microphone in Big Sur? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 08:09 PM PDT After upgrading to Big Sur from Catalina, I remarked my fan was running continuously. Opening Activity Monitor I remarked that "com.apple.SpeechRecognitionCore.speechrecognitiond" was chewing through CPU at 37.3%. Looking a likely candidate, and just being a bit anal about having a microphone in an always-on state, I wanted to knock that nonsense on the head. There was a microphone graphic on my screen which presented the option to "Sleep" which when clicked then presented the option to toggle the mic to "Wake Up". Clicking this did nothing: Speech Recognition nonetheless kept the fan humming and chomping through CPU cycles.
After toggling every application's access to the microphone to deny access, "com.apple.SpeechRecognitionCore.speechrecognitiond" was still happily chomping through CPU. Where is a setting to toggle the microphone off at OS level in Big Sur?!?!?!  |

My Photo Library exist in the Pictures directory and it is set as a system photos library. My photo library is not corrupt. The access level is not restricted. I have my iCloud photos option disabled. I am running Mojave 10.14.6 How do I sync my photos app library to my iPhone through iTunes?

Posted: 02 Oct 2021 02:12 PM PDT I have some photos taken in 2012 and when I export them as originals to a folder they have a creation date of July 2016. Running an EXIF detailer showed the images to have been taken in 2012, so why does Photos export them and add another date to it? I tried exporting my whole album from 2009-2016 and noticed some pictures taken in years prior to 2016 to appear in July or other months of this year as well. I would really appreciate if someone can shed some light on this issue.  |
