How do I know if water is fresh or salt?

In New World different fish and bait for each watertype. That said, it's somewhat hard to tell what water type is which. Obviously a beach is saltwater and a landlocked lake is freshwater, but It's a bit harder to tell when the areas mix.

For example, there's a bay/lake/gulf/river thing near First light that surrounds the Fort Island. Is that fresh or salt?

How to make a key-locked wall?

I am making an adventure game in minecraft and I am currently making an ocean monument level. I want to make it so that when you go and get a key and click a block, a few holes open in a 3x3 wall, but not enough to walk through, and when you get a second key and click a second block, more holes open, enough for you to walk through. However, I am not sure how to achieve this. Can anybody help me with this???

Can Endermen spawn on smooth stone?

I have been 30 block away on my farm in Minecraft Bedrock because my simulation distance is in 4, I did that because the tutorial said so, but he said I can use any solid block for Enderman to spawn, so I used smooth stone (because it looked kinds cool) and they don't spawn in, I tried replacing it with the end block, and worked.

Is this a bug?

Minecraft native resolution vs any other resolution fullscreen issue

When I set my monitor resolution to, for example 1920x1080, and I put my resolution on MC to "current", MC works fine. However, when I set it to any other value, even at 1920x1080, there is one black bar at the bottom half of my screen.

Please help. the issue

Under what conditions do ender pearls despawn?

I use long-term Ender Pearl stasis on a server that I frequent as a sort of fast travel. A chamber has been failing on me lately, leading to a rather lengthy trek each time.

This leads to the question. Under what precise conditions will an ender pearl disappear without teleporting the thrower? The player being offline is an obvious one - are there any others?

How to apply potion effects only in a certain radius, without applying it to yourself?

I'm trying to apply potion effects to mobs in a certain radius of me without applying it to myself as well, is this possible to do with the current state of commands in Minecraft 1.17?

In The Witness, are there puzzles that DON'T do anything?

Inspired by a recently popular Witness streaming I decided to do the game myself. I completed most of the puzzles without help, but I was surprised that there were some puzzles in the game that seemed not to do anything.

  • The room with coloured light puzzles in the town centre (I'm talking about the puzzles themselves)
  • The triangle puzzles scattered throughout the island (could be just a tutorial though)
  • One puzzle on the second floor of the quarry
  • And I think there were some others too that were just... dead ends. They were the final puzzles in a series, but didn't contribute anything to progressing the game. But they were also obviously not just tutorials.

So... do these puzzles have any actual meaning (as in, unlocking/moving something), or are they just there for fun?

Minecart with hopper doesn't collect items

I'm new to redstone devices and I'm trying to make a sugar cane farm. I already solved some problems I had with the Observer and powered rails but not I just need to fix one more issue.

My Minecart with Hopper is not collecting items when it passes by them. Please see image:

If an opposing faction controls a settlement, and you have enough influence in the area to declare war on the settlement with your company:

How much does it cost to declare war on the settlement?

And how much does it cost to take control of the settlement after you win the war?

Just curious how much gold a company needs to take control of a settlement that is already under an opposing faction.

So I'm currently working on a Minecraft minigame where the goal is for Team A to collect all the torches and Team B's goal is to kill Team A (basically Pac-Man(or dark deception)) and I'm asking: How do I tell when the torches are all gone within a certain radius?

Sometimes, for some strange reasons, you might lose a Scavenger bot and end up with one less bot than you're supposed to. This can be annoying, as the Scavenger bot is useful for collecting resources easily (mostly Tungsten and Ration seals).

What are the possible reasons for a Scavenger bot to be lost, and how to avoid it?

Minecraft, villages doesn't breed or farm

In the following picture, there is a villager breeder, but it doesnt work. Villagers doesnt breed or farm the potatoes, i tried almost everything at this point still nothing works, what the problem?

My Minecraft Java crashes every time I open it

I was playing Minecraft Java edition and it was fine, but today when I started it up it got just to the end of the loading screen and stopped. It then crashed, and gave me the message Open jdk Platform Binary not responding. How do I fix this?

Do zombie villager spawners exist in survival mode?

I have been looking a lot for some information about the topic. I know for sure that zombie villager spawners are technically possible to exist in Minecraft. So I wonder if that kind of spawner can be spawed naturally. After some search on the internet I could not find anything about it. The only thing that I came across was that a zombie spawner has some % chance to spawn a zombie villager. So after a lot of brainstorming and testing/looking, I still have no idea if this is possible.

I just hit power level 900 rather quickly after playing D2 for the last 3 days. However, it seems now that my power level goes up rather slowly, by at least 1-2 every few hours.

It doesn't seem level is tied to the power level -- in fact for some reason, when I started playing, I was already at max level, with all the skill trees unlocked.

What is the max power level in D2, and how do I get there?

I'm looking for a way to keep specific chunks loaded with a command block loop or permanent command, because I have a large world with lots of redstone and I have to keep moving with the redstone signals so that they finish their signal. This is for Bukkit MC 1.9.2 with multiple worlds loaded on it.

I am unfamiliar with command block scripts in Minecraft. However, I hear command blocks merely execute commands that users can do in the chat window (which I am mildly familiar with). Therefore, I must ask:

In the context of computer science terms, do variables and arrays exist in the command block programming language, or has anyone implemented them if they didn't exist originally?

The reason why I ask is because the existence of the ability to create arrays of variable size gives one the power to create an array implementation of the heap (dynamic memory allocator) along with many other useful data structures in a programming sense (trees, lists, sets, mathematical functions, etc.).

In fact, that would essentially give one the ability to implement many things in a pure data structure sense. With that context, one would merely need to implement the "physics" and "graphics" of an entity.

Having this feature of arrays and knowing the syntax for indexing arrays would give me great power in a matter of seconds to change the nature of scripting as I understand by simply writing libraries of functions for people to use.

The title says it all: What blocks can endermen pickup? I don't know what they can pickup. I know that when they were added, they could pick up anything, but now I know they can only pick up some blocks. What I want to know is what should I use in my house. I don't want endermen picking up my house's blocks. What shouldn't I use?

I am creating a mini-game in Minecraft, where I must check to see if the player is injured. The injured player will then be given an item. My guess is that the command would look something like /testfor @p[injured=true], but this command doesn't work. Is there a command for this?

I am trying to set up a Tekkit-like server (+ some different mods). Most mods are not 1.4.2-compatible, yet, so the server runs 1.3.2. I can use MCNostalgia to downgrade the client, but is there any way to downgrade the server or download an old version?

Giving a minecart momentum with a piston

I am trying to setup a situation where I press a button and a minecart is pushed onto some powered track where it is then boosted up and giving a good speed.

This is what I tried (cross-section):

[P]M____     ^ piston     ^ minecart      ^^^^ powered track

When I give power to the piston, the minecart gets shoved onto the powered track fine, however it just rests there. In order to get it boosted by the powered track, I have to manually touch it.

Is there a way to get the cart boosted automatically when it gets pushed onto the track?

What's the difference between the different versions?

My brother recently got me interested in Minecraft, and I'm having a lot of fun playing it. The thing is, I've only ever played the Beta version. After I first played it, I found a whole bunch of pictures and videos online with stuff that wasn't in the version I was playing. So I was wondering: What are the main differences between all the different versions of the game?
