| Pinch to zoom issues? MBA M1 256GB Posted: 29 May 2021 09:44 PM PDT I'm new to Macbook. I was using windows earlier. The touchpad of Macbook is so much better except the pinch to zoom function. I usually keep one finger on the touchpad move the other (done using two hands) to zoom in while reading webpages i.e I don't really zoom by moving both the fingers outwards. It seems to hit and miss. Sometimes it will zoom, sometimes not. Sometimes it'll be zooming and then start moving the arrow. It works only 1/10 times if I'm using the corners. It works 2/10 times if I'm moving the arrow and suddenly putting another finger to zoom. Overall, it's not a smooth, but a very glitchy experience. Anyone else? Fix?  |

After disconnecting the external monitor, the applications that were occupying all space of the screen, keep occupying all space, but now also size beyond the Dock boundary, so I get part of the application rendered behind the dock. The only way to work around it is to manually switch to each application and double-click its bar, so that it re-sizes to take full screen again. This is very annoying. The question is: is this a bug, or am I doing it in a wrong way, or is there a particular setting in MacOS that would automatically resize applications after monitor disconnection to not be rendered behind the Dock?  |
| How to delete a copy of a system font Posted: 29 May 2021 08:10 PM PDT At some point I made copies of all the fonts in the System>Library folder. I would now like to delete those duplicates, which are not in use and are not in a System folder. But macOS (Mojave) won't let me because the copies inherited the protections of the originals. I'm not trying to change anything that's in the System folder itself. Any suggestions? Thank you.  |
| Give the Terminal.app Full Disk permission problem even it is given Posted: 29 May 2021 06:38 PM PDT macOS: v 11.2.3 Chip Apple M1 I have given the Full Disk Access to Terminal and iTerm.
But when I run a Bash script to clean up the Trash directory I get "Give the Terminal.app Full Disk permission in the Security settings." error. When I run for Downloads directory, I don't have any problems. I run this script through launchd plist file. I restarted the mac. What can I do to avoid this error?  |
| iPhone randomly fails to take live photo? Posted: 29 May 2021 06:09 PM PDT Occasionally iPhone 12 Pro Max fails to take a live photo, instead taking a regular photo. It happens to me approximately 1 in 10 photos. I cannot understand why, nor see the correlation between the photo and any other settings or conditions. Notes:
Does anyone know why live photos would randomly fail, instead taking a still/regular photo?  |
| How to know if a MacBook Pro 15" screen is genuine? Posted: 29 May 2021 09:04 PM PDT I bought a used MacBook Pro 15" 2016 and suspect that the screen was replaced and the replacement is not genuine. I went to terminal.app and checked using this code: I got the result below, but I don't know whether the information verifies that this is a genuine screen or not because I couldn't figure out what it means. I went to bestfirms.com to check the screen resolution for this model and it says 1680 x 1050. That's why I question the authenticity of the screen.  |
| Why can't Preview save on an external SSD? Posted: 29 May 2021 02:59 PM PDT I have an external SSD. If I try to modify an image on the SSD with Preview, Preview can't overwrite the file. But Preview can write a new file. I gave Full Disk Access to Preview in the Security & Privacy settings, but that didn't help. E.g. open foo.jpg in Preview. Crop the image by selecting and Command-K. Preview says "The document could not be autosaved". Command-S yields "The document could not be saved." Duplicate and then saving under a different name works, so Preview can write to the disk. Details: macOS Big Sur, Samsung T5 external SSD.  |

| Can no longer send a photo from camera roll to a shared album Posted: 29 May 2021 01:51 PM PDT iPhone SE, iOS 14.5.1 For years I have made a new Shared Library every year with the year in the title, to share with my other half. This has always worked, and she has a shared library of photos I have sent her for each of the last 7-8 years or so. But I recently upgraded my OS (always a scary proposition with Apple) and I can no longer share photos from the camera roll, to a shared album! The option simply doesn't appear. I can email them, send them via Messages, AirDrop, Dropbox, Google Drive, and a ton of other things. But there is no option anywhere that I can see, to add the selected photos to a shared album. Album Sharing is enabled, iCloud is working, etc. How can I add a photo to a shared album in iOS 14.5.1?  |

I get some strange disk space readings when I query free space on the command line ... I'm confused -- the size of the disk listed (234 GB) seems to exceed the used + available by quite a lot. However for productivity reason I do need to login into my personal account, for instance paying bills or even just voting 1up an helpful answer on stack exchange. Keeping all that in mind, you may understand why I won't connect this Mac to personal account at system level but I wish I can login to safari and get facilities like bookmarks, keychain. I know chrome lets you login just at browser level, is their a similar functionality in safari.  |

| Dual-boot macbook air 2013 Kali & Mojave deleted kali now unbootable Posted: 29 May 2021 02:13 PM PDT Please excuse my english, I have a macbook air 2013 which dual-boots Kali and Mojave. The macbook when powered on boots into Kali and if i wish to use Mojave, i boot holding the option key. Recently, wishing to remove Kali and turn my mac back into a single boot, I have deleted the Kali partition from Mojave using DiskUtility by simply selecting the 64GB Kali partition and clicking the minus "-" sign, then being unable to resize my 64 GB Mojave partition, i tried rebooting hoping that the system would auto-reclaim the space. But instead, the mac can no longer be booted into MacOS, the only option showing is Internet Recovery. What I've triedI've gone into internet recovery mode.The "Reinstall OS X" option does not show any disks at the "Select disk to install to" screen though the 64 GB Mojave partition can be found in disk utility and terminal using the Problems

| How create a graph of profit over time Posted: 29 May 2021 02:03 PM PDT I have created a spreadsheet on numbers to track profit/loss of cryptocurrency investments. I have taken the data for the current value of the cryptocurrency using stock quote so it updates every few minutes. I have a total profit amount at the bottom of the spreadsheet that changes as the figures do. I'd like to create a line graph that shows the profit going up and down over time. I'm not sure how to make the x axis correspond to a date and how to link this with the profit, I don't really want it to update every few minutes as the figures do but possibly once daily. Can anyone help please?  |
| Vertically accessible 3-finger multi touch windows Posted: 29 May 2021 01:06 PM PDT MBP 15" user - 95% trackpad - LOVE the 3-finger swipe navigation. I assume Apple limits the potential of an app like this, but maybe not. Is it possible to add vertical functionality to the 3-finger swipe? To clarify: Saying "Swipe left/right/up/down" implies the end result of the movement, not the actual direction of my fingers. Swiping right means go to the window right of my current window. Swiping down displays all your windows/desktop background. Swiping up does nothing. Really all I want, is to be able to swipe up to Spotify from any window or have a second set of windows on a level above the current, 1-dimensional horizontal window set. Made a simple mockup as to what I am describing. Is there already an app like this? Would download in a heartbeat!

Telegram iTerm and Flux does not start. But Notion yes and 1password, karabiner and other not listed in Login Items. I have removed and put back the elements, but no change.

| How can I best configure this hard drive? Posted: 29 May 2021 07:02 PM PDT I have a Mac Mini with two hard drives inside. The 1st one has an OS installed, and the files I work from. But I wanted to have the second one be used partly for storage, and partly have an OS installed in case the first HD crashes. I'm imagining that if my main drive fails one day, I will be able to keep working uninterrupted by updating drive 2 with Time Machine. However in the meanwhile, I'd like to use Drive 2 for storage (while booting from drive 1). I found this article, but it doesn't really say if this scenario would let the user use the rest of the partition for storage if the computer is booted from another drive. Does this sound like a logical plan, and how would I format and instal the second drive?  |

I can't work with external monitor. 3-5 minutes after pluging in I have kernel_task that takes something about 500-900% CPU. I know there are some similar topics - the main suspect is overheating in such case. I have some changes in temperature, but it's hard to say for me if temperatures are still in ok spot. I have highlighted the biggest changes.  |
| Macbook Pro doesn't recognize USB devices through hub Posted: 29 May 2021 03:05 PM PDT I have a power delivery USB hub that I use to have a single cable I plug into my laptop to connect power, an HDMI monitor, and USB devices. It all works on other devices of mine, and mostly works for my Macbook Pro (i.e. PD and HDMI work), but the Macbook Pro doesn't recognize any devices beyond the USB hub, in particular mouse movements and keyboard strokes are not recognized by the laptop. When I look at the System Report (Apple Logo -> About This Mac -> System Report...) in the USB section I can see what I believe to be the USB hub in question (when I unplug the cable and refresh it disappears), but nothing beyond the hub is listed. It lists the hub as a "USB3.1 Hub" when the Amazon listing for the device only claims 3.0. I do not know if this is related, but I currently don't know how I could take action based on that. My laptop is up to date (macOS Catalina 10.15.3). I have tried plugging the USB devices "directly" into the mac (USB-A to USB-C converter) and they work fine. Plugging the hub into a different port on my Macbook does not fix the issue. As I mentioned, these peripherals work through the hub on every other device I've tried. I have tried restarting the Mac with the cable in and with the cable out. I have also tried unplugging the power delivery from the hub and plugging it back in just in case it's stateful. I also followed Apple's guide for when USB devices don't work, but this did not resolve the issue. How can I get this to work? What else should I do to troubleshoot?  |
| Trying to set a F8 pause/play dictation command Posted: 29 May 2021 11:02 PM PDT So I'm what one would describe as ridiculously disabled. I've recently taken a liking to using the dictation functionality due to only having the use of one hand and often having to lie on my back. I'd like to add the F8 play/pause key to the list of dictation commands, but unfortunately the dictation custom commands don't take single keypresses. It seems the solution is to create a workflow. However, upon trying automator to record the keypress I seem to have discovered that it doesn't recognise that key for some reason. Just as a note, I use this play/pause functionality for iTunes AND Chrome Youtube videos at the same time. For example, I'll start iTunes playing, then start the Youtube video. Since the Youtube video was the last to be interacted with the play/pause affects Youtube, and not iTunes. That functionality I would like to keep if possible. So I guess if you can't just do a simple keypress it'd need to check if Youtube or iTunes is the current/last interacted with active app and act accordingly. Does anyone have a possible solution or workaround they can think of? Thank-you  |

I've used two different networks to do this, but, alas, I have failed myself, and those around me. Whenever I try to create an Apple ID via the web browser, account creation fails immediately after I submit the e-mail verification code - it says "your account could not be created at this time". Whenever I try to create an Apple ID via the App Store, account creation appears to silently fail at the end of the process. It looks like there might be a pop-up raised immediately after I try to create an account, but, it disappears after 10-15ms and I can't tell what it says. Posted: 29 May 2021 12:17 PM PDT I know there was a way to trigger App Expose, by pointing the mouse cursor over an dock icon, and scrolling the mouse wheel. As far as I remember, it was something I had to enable with the "defaults" command in Terminal. Unfortunately I don't remember how to enable this feature, and I can't find it on google nor on AskDifferent. Could somebody point me to the right direction?  |

My wife emails me our grocery list in this format every week and now I can't use Reminders to check off items as I find them in the store. How can I ask her to format the list and/or paste it so that each item will be separated as unique items to be checked off one-by-one?  |
