| Creating dated file inside dated folder Posted: 15 Aug 2021 04:23 PM PDT I'm having trouble copying/ moving a dated file to inside a dated folder. I can actually create the dated folder and file, but I can't reference the newly created dated folder location. This will be an ongoing action so a specific folder name won't work. At the moment, I am pointing it to the "DuplicatedFolder", but no luck. Do I need to create another variable for the newly created dated folder? Another option would be to copy the name of the dated folder and paste/ rename a file inside the dated folder. This happens all the time when I'm using files on the external boot drive I use with my iMac from my Windows 10 laptop, and it's started to annoy me. I try to write applescript that will fetch the token prices and symbols, and put them into Numbers. To do that we have to call the API 2 times. First one to get all the ids of tokens, and the second to use those ids as a comma separated list parameter. First request: https://api.coingecko.com/api/v3/coins/list
Second request: https://api.coingecko.com/api/v3/simple/price?ids=[ids-from-previous-one]&vs_currencies=usd
I get some inspiration from https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8126136 but it relates to scrapping webpage rather than parsing JSON. I also found some parsing examples but still very confused, and couldn't manage to parse the document. I have JSON helper installed. Everything is set up for the install except the partition. All the guides that I read say to partition the internal ssd drive in the disk utility application. But when I try to add a new partition in the add partition tab, it says "This container has 30 GB used space. Its minimum size is 120 GB. This container can't be split, because the resulting containers would be too small." any advice?  |
| Importing Dolby Atmos or 5.1 Audio into the Music app? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 01:59 PM PDT Apple has recently added support for Dolby Atmos (which they call Spatial Audio) to its streaming service and it can simulate the surround sound experience on headphones. I have a collection of music remixed to Dolby 5.1 and I was wondering how I could convert it to alac files that I can import into the Music app on macOS and listen to with this simulated surround sound effect. I have tried converting it to alac files with 6 channels, but I can't even import these files into the Music app. I'm happy to buy software that is capable of doing this conversion (from Dolby or otherwise) if that is necessary. I just have no idea how this can be done and I'm not finding much information online.  |

I have a Wacom Tablet, which I used on a 2011 MacBookPro, but it is no longer supported. I found instructions to remove on Wacom's website, but I don't have any of the apps suggested. This is presumably a hangover from when I migrated to an iMac a couple of years ago. How can I remove it?  |

The macOS terminal tab title remains at its default. I can then manually set using the following:-

Is there a ssh setting which would facilitate this behaviour?
I have tried many options;
Including echo -en "\033]1; $(hostname) \007" after ssh does not work, as any subsequent commands do not run on the host. Including echo -en "\033]1; $(hostname) \007" before ssh sets the Title to the host on the host. I could hard code the Title into a script before ssh which does work, but often I use IP Address rather than a HOSTNAME so this is not generic. Apparently something happens when sshing to Linux which sets the title, but not when sshing to macOS. Ideally I would like to discover what this is.
The Linux .bashrc contains # If this is an xterm set the title to user@host:dir case "$TERM" in xterm*|rxvt*) PS1="\[\e]0;${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\u@\h: \w\a\]$PS1" ;; *)

| Compressor Export causes Mac to freeze up, crash Posted: 15 Aug 2021 02:52 PM PDT When I export a movie from Final Cut Pro to compressor, it begins running just fine. However, it will eventually cause my Mac mini (2018) to start getting graphical glitches (parts of the window or dock will flicker in and out) and eventually the computer will lock up, then shut down. I have 32GB of RAM, of which only 16GB are used, so I don't think it's running out of RAM. I've ran Apple Diagnostics numerous times and it doesn't detect it, nor do I have issues with anything else graphically intensive. My CPU doesn't go above 150℉ [65℃], and the GPU doesn't go above 180℉ [82 ℃]. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I'm getting tired of losing progress on projects (apparently final cut doesn't immediately save) as well as the additional time it takes to render something many times before it actually succeeds. Example Suppose we take some live photos on iPhone, airdrop them to MacBook, and we want to upload them to a site that only accepts .png files. 
I've noticed if you simply change the extension from .HEIC to .png (e.g. in the above image), then as far as I can tell, the image file is treated accordingly by programs and it 'works'. However, I guess the underlying file hasn't changed, so it could still contain live photo information (I think), which a normal png wouldn't have, which, in a worst case, could be a security risk or in less severe cases simply be an annoyance. What I know so far The best I can do right now is go through the files one by one renaming them. I would really like to know what other solutions are available (via point and click and terminal), and have a strong preference for not having to download any external software.  |
| Unity: How can I run Unity builds created in High Sierra & Verify they run on Mojave without a Mojave computer? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 08:03 PM PDT I have Unity 2020.3.0f1 Mac apps that were created on end-of-life High Sierra computers. I recently purchased a Mac Mini M1 computer. The apps run on both computers. I have to execute a terminal command on them to get them to open on the M1 computer. Apple changed the App Store Upload process so that now we have to notarize that new apps will run on Mojave. I don't have a computer that runs Mojave. From my understanding you can't test Unity builds using the Apple Simulators. Is there another option to test my apps to see if they will run on Mojave?  |

I tried to google and found this question https://stackoverflow.com/questions/34451126/xcode-crashes-on-launch and tried to delete DerivedData folder but this hasn't resolved the problem and it keeps crashing. I don't have admin credentials on my machine, so I'm severely limited in what I can change. Do I have to reinstall XCode or is there any other solution or workaround?  |
| Does Apple save a (hashed) version of my device passwords? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 10:02 PM PDT As earlier described in this question, I was asked today by my iPad to enter the user account password of my MacBook, and my MacBook later asked me to provide the passcode of my iPad. I'm specifically not talking about my iCloud password, the actual device passwords were requested and this behaviour is kind of known. Now my question is: What happens to these passwords? Are they sent over to Apple? Are they used locally to decrypt something that has been encryted with that passcode? So is Apple in possession of data that can be used to run brute-force attacks agains my device passwords? This would be totally against the idea of the T2-chip limiting brute-force attacks and I never agreed that such information is sent over to Apple and at no point was I informed about that. I'm not sharing my KeyChain with iCloud and do not wish to. I couldn't find any exact information on that matter, anybody shedding some light on it is highly welcomed.  |
| Sync with icloud doesn't work Posted: 15 Aug 2021 09:05 PM PDT The sync between icloud and my ipad and my mac doesn't, for all services (icloud drive, Ibooks...) My mac is running Catalina 10.15.3 My ipad is running Ios 13.3.1 Nothing is sync on the devices but the data are available via icloud.com. Here's what I tried: - Sign off and sign in from I cloud.
- Restart many times
- Kill the bird process and deleting the ~/Library/Application Support/CloudDocs as described here iCloud Drive Won't Sync on Mac

Can anyone provide a worked example of how to obtain the relevant cookies for Youtube and put it in the appropriate format for youtube-dl? Context: I want to download a private Youtube video. For various reasons, the method of logging into my Google account is complicated and involves two-factor authentication and not supported by youtube-dl's existing command-line options. Therefore, it seems the best way is to log in manually in my browser, obtain the authentication cookies somehow, and use the --cookies option -- but I can't find a worked example of how to do this.  |

Using the launchctl or the pfctl commands, root privileges are required and so it is useless to add them into .bash_profile. Are there alternative solutions to this issue?  |
| Can MacBooks run without a battery? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 02:52 PM PDT I have a MacBook Pro (2008). It is a secondary computer I rarely use, so it was easy to last that long with it. Such a long lasting service turned me into an adept of Apple quality. I am looking forward to buy a new one except... nowadays the battery is harder to remove. My concern is not "a replaceable battery", it is more of "a removable battery". As soon as the battery dies, I would like to keep using the laptop with a power cord. However I've seen all my batteries swelling and/or getting extremely hot. I might be paranoid, but in those cases I just wanted to remove the battery and keep using a good enough laptop. Is this possible with new MacBooks? Can they work without a battery attached? Or can their batteries be ignored once they expire?  |
| Why I cannot play M4A audio on iTunes, but I can play it on QuickTime? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 06:23 PM PDT I have some M4A audio files, that I can't play on iTunes (e.g. double click the file, and then iTunes fired up, the audio added to the library, but the play doesn't start. Tried double clicking on the audio on the library, still doesn't start the player). But when I open them in QuickTime, QuickTime can play it. Why that happens? And what can I do about it so I can import those files to iTunes? Thanks.  |
| App Store asking for other Apple ID when updating apps Posted: 15 Aug 2021 11:15 PM PDT My friend's mate reset his phone to prove him wrong about a situation and ever since then when he tries to update his apps it asks for his mom's iCloud password yet it says at the bottom of the App Store, iTunes and iCloud that it's signed into his account. We have tried backing it up into his computer but that didn't help. What can be done?  |
| How to get a "modern" emacs that runs in a terminal on os x lion? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 10:45 PM PDT I just installed Prompt on my iPad so I could possiby do some real work on my iMac via ssh. so far Mutt and Vim and emacs seemto work responsively enough for me. I've made a few tries at emacs before, but am essentially relearning it. Of course the emacs that comes with Lion is 22.1.1. I installed the current emacs cocoa on my iMac, but it doesn't run in a terminal. Is there a terminal version of 24 precompiled for OS X? Or is compiling it straightforward? So far I've had no need for Macports or Homebrew, and would prefer not to use them.  |
| Change label on USB drive in OSX Terminal Posted: 15 Aug 2021 10:45 PM PDT I am trying to write a program in Python that will rename a USB drive (from the standard "USB DISK" to my custom "MYDISK"). However, I can't find any way to do this neither in Python nor in OSX Terminal. (I figured, if I can make it work in Terminal, I can simply use os.system("command") in Python). The USB drive is a FAT32 formatted flash drive on filesystem /dev/disk2s1, and it is by default mounted on /Volumes/USB DISK What I have tried so far: (from http://techbu.com/2009/06/28/renaming-usb-drive-labels-in-linux) sudo umount /Volumes/USB\ DISK ## Works fine sudo mlabel -i /dev/disk2s1 ::MYDISK ## Command not found!
It seems that the "mlabel" command is not found in OSX Terminal. Is there an alternative?  |
| Is there a way to get gnome-terminal on Lion? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 10:45 PM PDT Is there a port of gnome-terminal, or a way to compile it, or some other program that is typographically comparable, under Lion? There is a typographic difference, and I can't duplicate it in Terminal; I can't even get Terminal to serve up anti-aliased text.  |
