App Store review and validating social access tokens on server side Posted: 28 Jun 2022 02:49 PM PDT According to App Store Review Guideline 5.1.1(v):
Is it gonna be a violation of the above guideline (or any other), if we send an access token from mobile to the backend just for verification purposes? We want to allow the users to link their social accounts to quicker sign in/up to the app. Most social networks limit the access token to the IP address where it was issued. |
How to dismiss mac mail windows that seem to be lost Posted: 28 Jun 2022 02:24 PM PDT For several months now I have had two mail windows that appear in the popup menu as shown in the image, but the windows are not selectable. When I select them with the mouse, nothing happens. The windows have the title "Re: OFA EPITA_Dates des soutenances de fin d'apprentissage". I've tried quitting the mail app and rebooting but they persist. Can someone tell me how to get rid of them? |

Why can't I replace all when TextEdit is in plaintext mode? Posted: 28 Jun 2022 12:08 PM PDT For some reason, when I switch TextEdit to plaintext mode, the find and replace menu changes, so if I want to "replace all" I have to manually hit replace a bunch of times, or flip it into rich text mode, replace all, then flip it back. Rich Text mode: Plain Text mode: Am I missing a setting? Is this intended behavior? (macOS Monterey) |
Cannot mount √ - Data volume in Catalina Posted: 28 Jun 2022 11:40 AM PDT My mac mini 2012 suddenly couldn't boot this morning. It looks like the main volume (with everything) is unmounted, for some reason. When I try to mount it in Recovery Mode, I get a 'First Aid' on 'Container disk1' fails with 'First Aid' on the I can't reinstall Catalina (using the recovery menu), because I have a newer 2020 Mac Mini M1, and a PC to try and sort this out. How to rotate between multiple app windows using Hammerspoon? Posted: 28 Jun 2022 11:03 AM PDT My current code for switching to a desired app is this: But I have opened multiple windows of VSCode. And I would like to have it integrated into this shortcut so it does the alt + ` shortcut and rotate between all available VSCode windows as I press hyper key + k. Manually manage the download of OS updates? Posted: 28 Jun 2022 11:52 AM PDT I'm on Big Sur 11.6.5. The system tried to upgrade to 12.1 four times. Each time it spent 1 hour downloading, then restarted and I'm still on 11.6.5 (no error). Someone said that I need to first upgrade to 11.6.7. I've tried that 3 times now. Each time it does a very slow download, hangs a while as the progress bar is hitting completion, then says the download failed. I'm sick of re-downloading the same updates. Can I manually download the update(s) and somehow kickoff the upgrade using the already-downloaded file(s)? |
Calendar.app: disable event-specific alerts while retaining calendar-wide alerts Posted: 28 Jun 2022 09:04 AM PDT I would like to essentially move all of my calendar alerts to appear 5 minutes before the event, rather than the time chosen by the event creator (typically 10 minutes). Is there a way to achieve this with Calendar.app? I can configure an extra alert in this menu for 5 minutes before: However, the event-specific alert is still shown. Selecting 'Ignore alerts' in the calendar info will ignore all alerts, even the configured 5 minute alerts in the settings panel: How can I receive only a 5 minute alert for all events? |
How do I switch profiles in the Google Chat app? [closed] Posted: 28 Jun 2022 08:59 AM PDT I have two clients, both of whom use Google Workspace for their team communication. If I'm working in Chrome, I have things set up so I can click my avatar icon to the right of the address bar and easily switch between the clients. But I prefer to use the Google Chat app to chatting in the browser. While there, although I see my profile icon, this is the one I normally see within the browser window's contents, not above with the address bar. I do see options, like "Add another account," but clicking that opens Chrome, and when I log in, notes that there's a profile for that account and offers to switch to it, which it does in the browser, but the Chat app is still logged in as the original account. How can I use the Chat stand-alone app to switch between Google account profiles so that I can chat with both clients there instead of having to use a web browser? |

Having display problems with my external screen (Macbook Pro M1 to LG Ultrafine for Mac) Posted: 28 Jun 2022 08:52 AM PDT I'm having this weird problem with my MacBook Pro M1 connection with an LG Ultrafine for Mac external display. I'm using the Type C to Type C connection. It used to function fine, but now I can't use the LG as an extended display since when I open windows on my Mac, the LG goes black. Checking open windows on LG shows this: The reverse happens when I open a window on the LG (i.e. the LG has the display but the Macbook goes black). I've tried rebooting both my laptop and display multiple times, nothing. I can't close the black windows either. Anyone have any solution to this? |

How to ship logs from macOS to a remote syslog server? Posted: 28 Jun 2022 09:45 AM PDT I have a standard syslog server running on a LAN host and listening on UDP port 514. I'm trying to have my Mac (running macOS 12.4 with SIP enabled) ship logs in syslog format to this remote server. I was able to figure out that if I edit and then bounce syslogd: That I do see some logs being sent to the server. However, many log entries are missed because of Apple's new Unified Logging System (ULS). I am aware of I also am aware of the I thought about using this to periodicall (via a LaunchAgent) query and ship the logs using netcat or some other simple tool. But this seems quite inefficient, as I'd need to parse each line and store a hash somewhere to see if that message had already been sent to avoid duplicates. Also, some log entries span multiple lines, so parsing with things like Without adding too many 3rd party tools to the mix, does anyone have a recipe for sending a more complete set of logs to a remote server? |
iPhone 12 only home network Wi-Fi issue Posted: 28 Jun 2022 12:04 PM PDT I have an iPhone 12 but recently suddenly from nowhere there appeared an issue. Whenever I connect my home Wi-Fi, it is as if the Wi-Fi is working but I won't be connected if someone sent me an iMessage or WhatsApp message. It won't show up unless I personally open the app and then it suddenly loads everything. Not even a single app on the phone connects to Wi-Fi even if the Wi-Fi sign is showing. It is not on Low Data Mode. |

Alternatively, if there is a better way to add custom scripting definitions to existing applications, that would work as well. (I tried directly adding entries to the .sdef inside a copy of the application, but then whenever I try to control that copy of the application using AppleScript, I get error -1728.) |
Can you have a second "virtual" screen when remoted into your Mac, like you can with Windows RDP? Posted: 28 Jun 2022 09:24 AM PDT I can connect to my Macbook via VNC ("sharing") but it only shows the physical laptop screen: I have Apple Remote Desktop and am connecting from a different Mac, but it's the same - just the single, physical screen. Is it possible to have a second "virtual" screen when remoted into your Mac, like you can with Windows RDP? If so, how can I set this up? |
macOS 13 Beta: Usual link no longer opens Pref Pane for Full Disk Access Posted: 28 Jun 2022 12:45 PM PDT In versions of macOS up to and including 12.x, the following link directly opened the Preferences Pane for Full Disk Access: As of the current macOS 13 beta, this link no longer behaves that way. It instead opens the pane for Files and Folders. Is there still a link to open the pane for Full Disk Access? Note: the answer here is a very good one, but it doesn't work in macOS 13. In macOS 12, the AppleScript snippet works as the author describes. In 13, it prints this error: Edit: I apologize for not providing the exact version information in this question. In my answer below, I have provided exact version information for the next beta I received, where the problem is fixed. Unfortunately, I now cannot go back in time to capture the exact version info for the beta version that this question was written about. |
508 Accessibility: English Siri misreads certain roman numerals Posted: 28 Jun 2022 10:33 AM PDT For any multiple of 5 and its preceding value, Siri reads the value as a literal character rather than a number. Can Safari tabs from an iOS device be recovered from an iTunes backup? Posted: 28 Jun 2022 04:04 PM PDT Before upgrading from an iPhone 12 Pro to an iPhone 13 Pro, I backed up my phone in iTunes. However, my safari tabs did not transfer over to the new phone and I lost them all (even though Safari was checked in iCloud settings). Is there a way to access my browsing history from my previous iTunes back up? Or do I have to restore the device from iTunes to get them back? |
Removed Google account keeps coming back Posted: 28 Jun 2022 11:01 AM PDT I'm trying to remove an old Google account from macOS. I remove it from I'm running Big Sur 11.6.5 and I've already tried rebooting the computer. |
MacBook Pro 2020 running Catalina 10.15.6 does not sleep at night Posted: 28 Jun 2022 02:08 PM PDT I've had this issue for about a month. I've done the factory reset and my Mac was fine for a week but is now slowly going back to draining the battery over night. I've tried everything to fix it and I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm sure if i go to Apple they will tell me its some sort of bug. Before i did the factory reset it would run literally all night doing the same set of actions over and over, resulting in a large battery drain - here is the results from that (posted on another site! sorry https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/ia31l3/help_2020_macpro_battery_draining_overnight/) Some additional information:
I'm not too flash with computers so i will just post the terminal log results that my mac repeats all throughout the night. Please help! Thanks in advance. |
Does Apple save a (hashed) version of my device passwords? Posted: 28 Jun 2022 01:07 PM PDT As earlier described in this question, I was asked today by my iPad to enter the user account password of my MacBook, and my MacBook later asked me to provide the passcode of my iPad. I'm specifically not talking about my iCloud password, the actual device passwords were requested and this behaviour is kind of known. Now my question is: What happens to these passwords? Are they sent over to Apple? Are they used locally to decrypt something that has been encryted with that passcode? So is Apple in possession of data that can be used to run brute-force attacks agains my device passwords? This would be totally against the idea of the T2-chip limiting brute-force attacks and I never agreed that such information is sent over to Apple and at no point was I informed about that. I'm not sharing my KeyChain with iCloud and do not wish to. I couldn't find any exact information on that matter, anybody shedding some light on it is highly welcomed. |
Mac: DRM removal for Apple TV-purchased movies? Posted: 28 Jun 2022 12:00 PM PDT I have the latest macOS (Catalina). Are there any DRM removal software that will work with the Apple TV app on my Mac? The most popular software (DVDFab, TunesKit, etc.) work with iTunes only, but iTunes only exists on iPhones. I downloaded my Apple TV-purchased movie to my Mac, which has a .movpkg file extension. I tried using TunesKit, but it won't even open the downloaded movie. I'm just looking to convert the file extension and play in VLC so I can take a screenshot from a movie scene. I understand that Apple blanks DRM from screen recording and I still want to snap occasional still frames. Is this technically possible? |
My command line says `complete:13: command not found: compdef ` Posted: 28 Jun 2022 12:08 PM PDT When I use a terminal like iTerm or Hyper, right as I boot it up, the first message I get is: I don't know what this is from, and how to get rid of it. This message does not show up on the default terminal app though. I am using zsh. |
Send audio output of MacBook to iPhone for remote listening Posted: 28 Jun 2022 12:11 PM PDT Is it possible to send audio from music in iTunes, or from movies on Netflix, or video game sounds, etc., from my MacBook and receive and listen to the audio on my iPhone? I'm thinking of this working like wireless headphones, except with a really long cord. If there is a way could you let me know how the solution works, I'm interested in creating my own script/app to do this if it's not too daunting. If its important, I'm running an old 2009 MacBook, running Snow Leopard. |
