(Permanently) changing resolution in Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 11:19 AM PST

When I launch "Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" from Steam, it pops up a launcher that looks like this:

Launcher

If I go into "Options", I can change the resolution from 1024x768 (default) to 1400x1050 (still tiny, but not as bad as the default):

Changing resolution

But when I start the game, it launches at 1024x768, and I have the go back into the Options from the main menu and reselect the resolution. My choices from the launcher don't appear to ever be honored, and my chosen resolution always resets between launches. (And since this game crashes to desktop often on Windows 10, constantly going into the Options menu and setting it becomes tedious.)

Is there some way to make this resolution sticky, possibly by futzing around with an ini file or maybe a Steam launcher commandline argument?

Amiga - Arcanoid Clone

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 12:25 PM PST

I was having fun with my Korg Krome, and I stumbled on a patch (combination of different sounds), something like with strings and ambient music. It triggered my memory...

The chords I press, sounded like a musci from a Amiga game back in the day.

The game was in a was adult game, an Arcanoid clone. You break the bricks, and uncover the lady pictures. The music from that game is stuck in my head, but I cant remember the game, nor the music.

I would want to know the name of the Track used in the game, so I can play on my Korg and have some fun :)

Anyone?

PS I tried midomi, but my humming leads me nowhere.

After you've clipped the lockout chip's 4th pin on a toaster-style NES, do you still get the flashing red light and screen with no cartridge?

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 07:50 AM PST

Just curious as I have not yet performed the fix, and it seems like logically, if this 1-second cyclic reset is chip-associated behavior, you'd just see a solid lavender or black/grey screen with no cartridge after the lockout fix. Can anyone confirm? I'll update this if and when I go ahead with that and test.

Can you lose loot on the ground that is too far away for your pet to auto-loot?

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 06:50 AM PST

After playing Lost Ark for a bit, every player on EU/NA receives a free pet, and one of its functions is auto looting. I usually run Chaos Dungeons with abilities that hit enemies off-screen and in the faraway distance and developed a habit of running back and forth — in case my pet doesn't auto-loot those far away items. I especially became cautious due to the warning that any uncollected loot will be lost when you leave the Chaos Dungeon. I might be wasting my time doing this, so will your pet just auto-loot everything from mobs that you kill, or can you lose loot that is off-screen?

How to get rid of 5* artifacts besides leveling up other artifacts?

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 02:01 AM PST

I'm constantly at the limit of 1500 artifacts and about 1/3rd of them are 5-star artifacts.

When at the limit, I go to my inventory and destroy some 4* artifacts or lvl up some 5*, just to free up some artifact space. But I also want to remove some 5* artifacts that got bad stats without leveling another one up, as that's very time consuming.

Is there any easy way to get rid of 5* artifacts other than levelung up other artifacts, just like destroying 4* artifacts?

Transfer Elden Ring save files to another account

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 02:24 AM PST

I wanted to figure out how to transfer my game save on one account to another Steam account with a different Steam id. I was able to find something very similar with Sekiro using this method Sekiro account transfer tutorial, but the location for the account A and account B hex steamid is different on Elden Ring. Hopefully someone can help.

Are there three-move combinations in Elden Ring?

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 12:35 AM PST

I never played the Dark Souls games, but I am trying Elden Ring. Supposedly the game features combinations of moves that result in a special bonus or effect, kind of like Special Moves in Mortal Kombat.

However, so far I have only found two combinations: Riposte (Parry + Light Attack) and Guard Counter (Block + Heavy Attack). Are there any three-move combinations, or even any other two-move combinations than this?

AV Rings of Saturn - How to release mining companion?

Posted: 26 Feb 2022 10:20 PM PST

Playing AV Rings of Saturn on Steam and I bought the mining companion drone for one of my hard points, but I don't know how to launch or release it so that it can go off and do its thing. Instead it just stays mounted on my ship. Any idea what to do?

Is there any way to prevent Minecraft from pausing when I use Alt-Tab?

I wanna use Autoclicker to work in the background, but whenever I Alt-Tab out of the game it pauses.

Is there some way to prevent this from happening?

Officially, what was Bethesda's inspiration for the Atom Cats in Fallout 4?

Posted: 26 Feb 2022 10:29 PM PST

I have found a fair amount of information, but I have not yet managed to find any official declaration by Bethesda as to the inspiration for the Atom Cats.

Summary

While the sources referenced below collectively assert that the Atom Cats are inspired generically by 1950's or 1970's stereotypical greaser gangs, often characters and groups have character models (for instance, one article put forth James Dean as a potential inspiration). Ultimately, I'm looking for a more specific answer than "greasers"--if such an answer exists--but thus far I have found neither a Bethesda statement or a second-hand reference to such a statement.

Research

  • From Fandom (Zeke's Jacket and Jeans): nothing explicitly relevant. Comparable to the more standard Greaser Jacket and Jeans, which is also declared to be worn by Atom Cats. This in turn only reveals that there is at least some measure of Greaser influence, more of which is discussed here, here, and here.
  • According to a note regarding the Atom Cats Quest, there is unused content intended to involve the Sole Survivor in a drag race with the Atom Cats. So racing culture may or may not have played a role in inspiring the gang. The racing detail is clarified to have meant power armor racing (which makes sense) in the Fandom page for the Atom Cats Garage.
  • On another Fandom page (The Vault - Fallout Wiki > Atom Cats), they are expressly called a 23rd century "greaser gang, except with power armor instead of hot rods". The aforementioned Atom Cats Garage Fandom page has a reference at the bottom, explicitly calling the Atom Cats "a group of friendly Greasers". This alternative Atom Cats Garage page at The Vault - Fallout Wiki did not yield any additional information.
  • The two Fandom pages for the Fallout 4 Vault Dweller's Survival Guide transcripts, 1) Locations, and 2) Groups, Gangs, and Factions, did not yield any information on the Atom Cats specifically.
  • An IGN article on the Atom Cats Garage states that the Garage "has been renovated into an [sic] 70's style gang hide out."
  • One of the aforementioned Atom Cats Garage Fandom pages references Zeke's phrase "Atom Cats Rule!" and states that this is a reference to the Fallout 3 "Tunnel Snakes". Their chosen style is noticeably similar to that of the Atom Cats so I did some investigating here as well; the Tunnel Snakes Fandom page cites their haircuts as being styles from the 1950's. Further in the article under the "Behind the Scenes" heading, it is asserted that "Butch and his gang are modeled after 1950s-style juvenile delinquents known as "Greasers," seen in movies such as West Side Story, The Wild One, Rebel Without a Cause, as well as later "retro" movies and TV programs that hearken back to the same era." Additionally, the Fandom page for the Tunnel Snakes' leader, Butch DeLoria, calls the Tunnel Snakes a "greaser-type gang".
  • Unlike the Tunnel Snakes pages, the Fandom pages for the Atom Cats characters Zeke, Bluejay, Duke, Rowdy, Roxy, Johnny D., Peepers, and Aimin' Andy each did not yield any additional information about the gang's inspiration.
  • In an article by The Gamer, Bethesda Announces Official Fallout Greaser Gear, part of the description describes the Atom Cats (as well as the Tunnel Snakes and the Kings) as follows: "Fallout's '50s-inspired aesthetics would just be missing something without the greaser-inspired gangs, who look like they're straight from a James Dean movie...these gangs embodied the cool aesthetic of '50s bad boys, complete with coifed hair and leather jackets with their logos on the back."
  • An additional site that I found only echoed other sources: "They seem to be a reference to mid-1950s Greasers."
  • The FextraLife page for the Atom Cats--as well as the only character page, for Rowdy--appears to be in progress and did not yield any useful information.
  • This Bethesda page for Fallout 4 did not have any Atom Cat information.
  • Bearing a similar name and style to the Atom Cats, the Stray Cats are an American rockabilly band formed in 1979 with musical inspiration drawn from 1950s artists such as Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent, and Bill Haley & His Comets. More info on the Stray Cats can be found here and here.
  • At about 1:40 in FudgeMuppet's YouTube video Fallout 4 - 5 Atom Cats Facts, the video's narrator asserts much the same (that the inspiration for the Atom Cats are inspired by 1950s greasers) though he does not offer more than observation to support this.

Unfortunately, none of these leads have brought me any closer to an official statement from Bethesda as to the inspiration for the Atom Cats.

A Note on the Question Itself

I checked the ARQADE question guidelines here, here, and here. I think the question is suitable, as it asks about characters in a game and the question has a limited scope for a correct answer (Bethesda statement(s), or reference to such). The part that I am uncertain about is this clause: "...site policies prohibit ...Speculations on...developer intent on mechanics and narrative." To be clear, I don't want speculation. Instead, I want matter-of-fact "Bethesda says regarding the Atom Cats' inspiration, this"--I've already seen plenty of observation and assertion regarding the Atom Cats' inspiration, but nothing officially stated by Bethesda. However, I am still uncertain as to whether this question would be considered a violation of policy. If such is the case, I will voluntarily remove the question at the request of a moderator.

Why do I think there may be more to the Atom Cats' inspiration than generic greasers?

One of the things that I noticed is that every single Atom Cat member is a named character--none of them are generically "named". In contrast, there are generic Gunners, Raiders, Rust Devils, and others, each representing minor factions. Given the unique attention given to the Atom Cats, this suggests to me that they may have initially had a more developed story and, consequently, more specific inspiration.

The following are additional details that allude to specific, real-life persons being used as inspiration for named characters. Unless otherwise stated, these references come from the "Behind the Scenes" section of the respective characters' Fandom page.

Major Named Characters

For Curie, it is stated that "Curie is named after Marie Skłodowska Curie, the physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. Curie will acknowledge this when starting the quest Emergent Behavior."

For Dogmeat, one comment states: "Dogmeat is modeled after River, a female German Shepherd, and the pet of Joel and Michelle Burgess." Two additional sub-comments give more detail. The Twitter thread referenced in the second comment can be found here.

For Piper, one comment states: "Piper's interactions with Mayor McDonough seem to be inspired by Bob Woodward's and Carl Bernstein's reporting of the Watergate scandal which eventually led to the resignation of President Nixon. This is further lampshaded by Mayor McDonough's "I Am Not a Synth" speech."

For Preston Garvey, a comment says: "While designing Preston Garvey, character artist Dennis Mejillones used several film characters for reference, including the scientist Miles Dyson (played by Joe Morton) in Terminator 2: Judgment Day." The reference this comment lists is to an interview that can be found on YouTube here. Mention of Preston Garvey's inspiration being drawn from Miles Dyson begins around 45:26.

For Ada, the first comment reads: "Ada is likely named after Ada Lovelace, a real-world mathematician and an early innovator in the field of computer science. She shares her namesake with Lady Lovelace, another Assaultron present at the Easy City Downs." Following up on Lady Lovelace, this one's Behind the Scenes section simply states: "Lady Lovelace's name comes from Ada, countess of Lovelace, who lived in the nineteenth century and is often credited as being the first programmer for her work on the Analytical Engine."

Minor Named Characters

For Jack Cabot, it is explained: "The Cabot family is based on the real world Cabots, one of the "first families of Boston." The first Cabot arrived in Boston from Europe in the year 1700 and since then, many business leaders and politicians have hailed from the family." Continuing: "Jack Cabot's appearance and mannerisms are based on real-life rocket scientist Jack Parsons, known for his experimental work with rocket propulsion in the 1940s and for being a leader of the OTO, a religious occultist group which practices magic and rituals."

For Cito the following claim is made: "Everything about Cito, from having been raised by apes to the way he talks and dresses, is a parallel to Tarzan."

For Mayor McDonough, it is stated: "Emil Pagliarulo shared that McDonough was inspired by real-life Boston mayor James Michael Curley." This Twitter post is referenced to confirm.

For Big Mack, it reads: "Big Mack is named after "Big Mack" Pryor, who met the staff at Bethesda Studios while battling relapsed leukemia at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He died on December 27, 2015, aged 21." At first glance I thought it was a name-only inspiration, but I suspect that the reason for the namesake character being a supermutant relates loosely to the FEV as a comparison to chemo therapy, or perhaps even the leukemia itself.

For the otherwise-unnamed Vault-Tec Rep, one comment states: "In The Art of Fallout 4, character gen storyboards in the preproduction chapter describe him as "The rep looks like Fredo Corleone, smooth but obviously nervous.""

Minecraft sprinting while running and jumping

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 12:07 PM PST

I have been playing on the same computer for about 5 years and it worked perfectly. Now for some reason I can not jump while running with sprint or just at all walking and jumping. I try to do it and I just jump in place. I tried changing version and it did not work. I try to run and jump and it goes well for about 1 or half a second and then I jump in place with no movement at all for like 5 seconds and that has been happening for about 2 weeks now. On all servers. I didn't change anything in my computer, version or buttons. It just started happening out of nowhere. What do I do?

How do you get rocket boots in Candy Box 2?

I've looked about everywhere and can't find them. I've checked the witches place, merchant, blacksmith, the mountain pass, the hole, and the ocean, though I can't get too far in the ocean because of my health. I want to use them to pass over the gates to the castle. Does anyone know where they are? I can't find any questions for them.

Summon with BlockEntityTag creates "cannot drop air" error

Posted: 26 Feb 2022 07:23 PM PST

I am trying to use this command

summon minecraft:item -282 71 74 {Item:{id:"minecraft:shulker_box{BlockEntityTag:{Items:[{Slot:0,id:oak_planks,Count:64}]}}",Count:1}}

on a spigot 1.16.4 server. I will add more items to the shulker later, however I have reduced it for readability.

When I enter the command into the console I get this error:

How do you use Minecraft 1.16's Hex Color Codes in a lang file for Resourcepacks?

Posted: 26 Feb 2022 07:34 PM PST

When Minecraft 1.16 was released, they allowed the ability to use full hex color codes to color chat and command text.

See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/g6dxco/snapshot_20w17a_allows_hex_codes_to_be_used_as/

I don't actually know how its used in Commands or Chat..

But I want to know how to use it in a lang file for a resource pack.

By lang file, I mean the file that contains the strings for everything in the game. Normally you can use the § formatting symbols in it. However, no one has yet to explain how its used for lang files.

Picture of a modified lang file:

Im asking this question due to someone else mentioning it: https://www.reddit.com/r/mcresourcepack/comments/htydza/how_to_i_use_new_hex_color_formatting_116_to_lang/

Minecraft fill command cobblestone slabs

Posted: 26 Feb 2022 07:35 PM PST

I'm doing a big project and I want to use the fill command to make multiple cobblestone slabs. However when I start typing the command cobblestone slabs is not an option I can choose. I can make it out of all kinds of other slabs but I really want cobblestone slabs.

Why do my commands not work in a command block, but when put them in the chat they do?

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 12:50 AM PST

I was recently working on making a minigame in a multiplayer world. I used the execute command to test if anyone had drunk potions, and then executed accordingly. This was a repeating, unconditional, and always-active command.

I was working on that command, and it didn't work. I put it in chat and it worked.

Any ideas as to what's happening?

World of Warcraft: Classic and quest difficulty

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 09:02 AM PST

I'm playing World of Warcraft: Classic, as a hunter and I'm completely new to this game. I'm trying to solo the entire game and I've read that it is possible as a hunter with the pet as the tank.

But now I'm having problems with a quest called the Relics of Awakening, I tried completing the quest at level 8 but I was unable to handle 2-3 guys attacking me at the same time.

So I played again after getting a saber as a pet, but still, the quest is hard, coz my pet is getting wrecked as 4-5 of these guys are swarming around her, and then crushes me afterwards.

I'd like some pointers on how to beat this quest solo.

Minecraft multiple Mob data tags

Can someone help me out please?

Data tag parsing failed: Expected ']' but got '<EOF>' at: ...:307,Slot:0b},{ench:[{id:16,lvl:10}<--[HERE]

Alright, so I'm trying to set up a command to give me a sword with 7 attack damage and an attack speed of 100 so that it has no recharge. The command I'm entering goes as follows:

/give @p diamond_sword 1 0 {display:{Name:"Sword",Lore:["Smexy"]},AttributeModifiers:[{AttributeName:"generic.attackSpeed",Name:"generic.attackSpeed",Amount:100,Operation:1,UUIDMost:307,UUIDLeast:307,Slot:0b},{ench:[{id:16,lvl:10}]}}

And everytime I do the command it comes up with this:

Data tag parsing failed: Expected ']' but got '<EOF>' at: ...:307,Slot:0b},{ench:[{id:16,lvl:10}<--[HERE]

How do I place top slabs using the /fill command?

Which decks are available in Trainer Challenge?

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 12:59 AM PST

When I play the Trainer Challenge, I can't pick certain decks that I have available through online battles. In addition to that, I have 3 basic decks that are available in Trainer Challenge that I can't use elsewhere, specifically XY Basic Red, XY Basic Blue and XY Basic Green.

I'd like to know what determines in which mode I can use a certain deck? It probably has to do something with how the deck was acquired, but I couldn't find any concrete evidence to back this up.

What sources of randomness can be made with commands in Minecraft?

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 09:05 AM PST

I want to make a mini game in Minecraft were I need a random command generator for 9 commands. I need a random command to give the player a random item.

I can't do the command block in the dispenser any more because it will just drop out instead of being placed.

What different ways are there for generating randomness in commands, and which one would be best for my use?

This question is similar to the one about randomness in Redstone circuits, but I am specifically attempting to get randomness when using commands - the redstone solutions do not apply here.

What are the controls of The Binding of Isaac?

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 06:30 AM PST

What are all the keys used in The Binding of Isaac?

I'm going to configure my joystick using one of the tools suggested at How to setup the joypad for Binding of Isaac? (Xpadder, JoyToKey, QJoyPad, etc.), and for this reason I wish to know beforehand what are all the keys used in this game, so I can configure them before playing and won't need to configure more keys mid-game.

I know the first in-game level shows the controls, but that screen is not complete. There are at least two more keys (Q and P) that are not listed there. This is the reason I'm asking this question: I want to know the complete list of all controls.
