Keychain is broken system-wide after tampering with System.keychain Posted: 24 Nov 2021 02:20 AM PST After some frustrations with a half-broken login keychain, I eventually found myself deleting System.keychain and hoping that it would regenerate with defaults. This was a terrible move in hindsight — now my Keychain is fully broken! To give some examples of broken behavior, I needed to log into iCloud each time after several reboots (seems to not be the case now), and applications are having a hard time interacting with Keychain. Chrome doesn't seem to be able to store any passwords anymore. Can someone please let me know what steps to take next? I have considered three things: - Fresh install of macOS
- Using Unix/BSD skills and the
security command to diagnose/repair everything - Just living with the current macOS state
#2 sounds the most appealing to me. I'm willing to read up on the design of Keychain, so if anyone has any reading material, feel free to drop it below. |
WindowServer repeatedly crashing while using MS Office Apps Posted: 24 Nov 2021 01:50 AM PST I regularly use MS apps Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Teams on my Macbook Pro 2018 (Intel). Recently (not sure if after the Monterey update), while some of these apps are open, the whole system crashes and it goes to my lockscreen. It also opens the same set of apps that I usually quit after use. I uninstalled and reinstalled all the MS apps, and the issue is still there. I need to use MS apps regularly at my college. Attaching the text from the Problem Report here. Please help. ------------------------------------- Translated Report (Full Report Below) ------------------------------------- Process: WindowServer [38072] Path: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SkyLight.framework/Versions/A/Resources/WindowServer Identifier: WindowServer Version: ??? Connect macbook air 2015 to M1 Macbook air Posted: 24 Nov 2021 01:32 AM PST I am wanting to transfer files from my early 2015 MacBook air to 2020 M1 Macbook air. Connected with the usba-usbc chord.Tried using target disk method through system preferences. 2015 model goes into the disk mode but M1 Macbook does not show it. Is there any troubleshooting required, or is it not possible to transfer files through this method? |
Mac getting stuck during update Posted: 23 Nov 2021 10:28 PM PST So I'm updating the new macOS Monterey, but what's happening is the bar is freezing at the end of the update. I have waited multiple hours and left it overnight, but in the end, the bar is just frozen; it isn't moving an inch. So what I did is, I went to recovery mode, and went to macOS utilities, and reinstalled macOS Monterey, and selected that it should install on my Macintosh HD disk (where all my data is on), but however, even after this, it is still just freezing at the end of the bar, at around 95%. I reset the NVRAM and the SMC as well, but nothing is working. Previously, I booted it up on safe mode by holding shift, and it worked, but those were for shut downs. This is a reinstallation and I tried booting it up on safe mode, but it isn't working, it's still just freezing at the end of the update. And also, if I reinstall macOS Monterey, will all of my data and files and applications still be there? Because that Macintosh HD startup disk does contain all my data. Anyways, any clue on what's going on? Thanks for the help! iPadOS 14 external keyboard arrow keys issues Posted: 23 Nov 2021 11:00 PM PST I recently purchased a Logitech K380 keyboard for my iPad, running iPadOS 14.4. It's awesome, but I have one issue. When I use the arrow keys, it doesn't let me navigate text with the arrow keys. For example, when I enter text on the search bar, I press the arrow key to go back a letter to edit, and it just swipes. Is there a way to change this so I can navigate through text with a hardware keyboard's arrow keys? |
Using a screensaver as a desktop wallpaper? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 03:05 AM PST I've looked around a lot for a way to use one of the screensavers as the wallpaper for my desktop. I found a few options but all of them didn't seem to work on macOS Catalina. The way I tried to attempt this was by using the following code. /System/Library/CoreServices/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background & All this does is launch the screensaver, instead of making it my wallpaper. Any way that this could be done on Catalina? |
Can I use the built-in camera of my Apple Cinema Display on Windows 10 Posted: 24 Nov 2021 02:03 AM PST I have a 27" Apple Cinema Display (non Thunderbolt) working fine on Windows 10, except for the built-in camera that is not being recognized. Is there any way to activate it or any drivers that I can download that can make it work? |

/System/Library/Frameworks/Security.framework/Versions/A/Headers/x509defs.h I am also having some strange problems: The browser (Safari) keeps continuously loading new pages, on YouTube "you might be interested in-thingie" (individual ones, work fine). Also, Google Mail's "new interface," sometimes requires me to log in, multiple times. Otherwise, it goes goes back to the my original page, when I start the browser. I am interested in not just fixing my problem, but in the integrity of my system. |
Tabs opening in a minimised safari window, not the active one Posted: 24 Nov 2021 03:14 AM PST I'm often using multiple windows in Safari minimizing the windows I'm not working in. However, when I click on a link i.e. in Mail it opens it not in the active window but in the minimized one instead (the one that has been created first after opening the Safari). How can I set the Safari to open links in the currently active window, not a minimized one? |
Can I create a shortcut to open a specific application on OS X? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 11:12 PM PST I want to create a keyboard shortcut to i.e. open Firefox while I am working in another application. I know I can use ⌘ CMD+T when I am in Firefox to open a new tab. I haven't found a way to create that kind of shortcuts in System Preferences. Any ideas? |
