In this day and age , the delivery for a variety of foods from other areas is becoming much more developed and ubiquitous . In contrast with this improvement, it is widely believed that consuming regional foods brings positive influences on environment and economy . Personally , I believe that the drawbacks of only consuming local foods are more considerable than the benefits. On the one hand , the consumption of local foods might be said to have certainly disadvantage. Local foods are familiar with the resident's meals , they can be appeared in every traditional event , and they become one of the special culture from each area. Those are the reasons why the locals have scores of opportunities to eat their traditional foods ,however, these bring to the citizens sense of boredom and a lack of diversity taste.Foods are not only the determine factors for health but also plays vital role for the emotion. For instance , if Vietnammese people do not have any chance to interact with a wide range of food cultures in the world , they can not have the unusual experience about a fundamental different from the taste and ingredients. Perhaps the collaboration of the other spice with the regional foods enables them to enhance the standard of dishes .Moreover, Respectation and exploration a variety of foods around the globe is the best methods to establish and remain the strong relationships with other countries. On the other hand , it is thought that utilizing only local foods is also have the benefits to the environment and economy . With the environment's view , the delivery for foods have to use numerous of non-biodegradable items for packaging , namely nylon bags and plastic boxes, so consume of these products is harmful for the environment . Futhermore, if the residents want to order foods with transport service , they will have to pay the shipping cost , which depends on the transport distance. A notabe example of the advantages of local foods are people who consume local foods regularly can save a lot of money because the price of regional foods is less cost fortune than the others , and they will not dispose many garbages to the nature. All points considered . it can be said that shipping foods from other area not only has the advantages of the environment and economy but also creat the negative impact on human's emotion. From my perspective , I lean toward the disadvantages are more significant than the advantages.

A four- or five-time(s)-a-year indulgence

Page 693 of Garner's Modern English reads

When two phrasal adjectives have a common element at the end, and this ending portion appears only with the second phrase, insert a suspensive hyphen after the unattached words to show their relationship with the common element.

"It was a four- or five-times-a-year indulgence, if that."

Arthur Miller, "The Bare Manuscript," New Yorker, 16 Dec. 2002, at 82, 85.

When phrasal adjectives denote durations or amounts, plurals should be dropped, 14-hour-a-day schedule, three-week hiatus—the exception is with fractions, in which the plural is retained <a two-thirds vote>.

Why isn't it five-time-a-year, just like the singular nouns in 14-hour-a-day schedule, three-week hiatus.

"... and since the offenders were minors, they were let off ..."

or

"... and since the offenders were minors they were let off ..."

In my opinion, it would be the first one, as "they were let off" appears to be a subordinate clause.

In my opinion, there is no substitute for the feeling of a natural fruit juice after a heavy run and when you've run out of breath and soaked in sweat and the shower after that.

I know that it can be written stylistically in many different ways, but I need to improve it in the manner that it sounds more elegant in English.

This all changes with the arrival of Genos, a 19-year-old cyborg, who wishes to be Saitama's disciple after seeing what he is capable of.

And thus begins the story of One Punch Man, an action-comedy that follows an eccentric individual who longs to fight strong enemies that can hopefully give him the excitement he once felt and just maybe, he'll become popular in the process.

Please can someone tell me if these two sentences are sentence fragments or not. I think they fully qualify as a sentence but I need a second opinion.

Word, Phrase or Idiom for a lack of confidence by-proxy

Posted: 03 Jul 2021 12:04 PM PDT

I am looking for a word, phrase, or idiom to express when a person has a lack of confidence in others based on their own personal self-confidence issues. The situation often arises where a decision is made by Manager because he doesn't feel his team can deliver the more appropirate alternative. Not because of a demonstrated inability on their [the team] behalf, but by projecting his own inabilities on others. Does such a word or snappy(ier) phrase exist?

Similar to the beautiful Schopenhauer phrase "Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world."

Originally developed by ancient Hawaiians, surfing appeals to people due to the sport's unusual confluence of adrenaline, skill, and high paced maneuvering, an unpredictable backdrop that is, by turns, graceful and serene, violent and formidable, and the camaraderie that often develops among people in their common quest to conquer nature.

I want to know:

Please explain to me properly as I am learning English.

It is important that they "are" or "be"?

Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:10 AM PDT

I was reading Jeremy Harmer's book (how to teach), and i encountered the sentence "it is, therefore, especially important that they are both fully engaged with what is going on and also ready to listen". But isn't that a subjunctive? Shouldn't it be "it is important that they "be" engaged..."? He's such a renowned author, I don't think he would make such mistakes, but this is kind of confusing.
